Detroit Tax Amnesty Program
Beginning January 22, 2013 and running through February 16, 2013, the City of Detroit is offering delinquent taxpayers an opportunity to settle back tax liabilities. Taxpayers eligible for this program include individuals, corporations and partnerships that have not filed returns or that have an outstanding tax liability including employee withholding for tax years 2011 and prior. To take advantage of the program, the appropriate returns need to be completed for the eligible tax years and payments must be made by February 16, 2013. Payments may be processed in person at the Coleman Young Municipal Center.
Mayor Dave Bing stated that after this amnesty period is over, the City will take aggressive collection actions, including providing delinquent reports to credit agencies. Outstanding tax liabilities will not be written off.
