Soir�e at Ch�teau d'Origny
The surprise discovery of a new place is always a delight, particularly when it combines the complementary flavours of good food and convivial company.
A very pleasant surprise.
There are many ch�teaux in the Roannais region (like most of France) of all shapes, sizes, ages, and historical significance. Ch�teau d'Origny is smaller than most, but impressive enough. And much more than just a grand maison bourgeois.
Probably originally established, in part, as a hunting ch�teau, providing a base for 'les chasseurs' (the hunters) near the C�te Roannaise forests and mountains full of juicy game.
After years of neglect the Ch�teau is now a Chambre d'h�te and restaurant, and was recently renovated and revived from considerable delapidation by the new owners, a Belgian chef, Monsieur Werner, and his wife.
They have brought it lovingly back to full working life and its former glory.
