Processes, such as planning, budgeting, sales, and billings have been carried out for years in organizations. But all too often, these activities are done for the sake of doing them; not for contributing directly to the preferred results of the organization.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do you spend more time than you like handling problems?
- Would you like to get the best out of all of your people so that your area of control thrives?
- How much easier would it be if you didn't lose your best people?
- Do you find it difficult to appraise your staff and give them a fair assessment?
Performance management reminds us that being busy is not the same as producing results. It reminds us that training, strong commitment, and a lot of hard work alone are not results. The major contribution of performance management is its focus on achieving results-redirecting our efforts away from busyness toward effectiveness.
WSAC is proud to offer "Leading for Performance", a Professional Development Forum, specifically designed for WSACs' elected county officials. Curriculum includes system and process improvement; measuring what you want to change; understanding LEAN; and other topics that help you create the results your county needs.
Registration is now open for the WSAC June 6-7, Leading for Performance, Professional Development Forum in Yakima County. This forum is being conducted in partnership with the Washington State Auditor's Local Government Performance Center.
