Hello, MUMC Friends!

We have a busy couple of weeks coming up! The Variety Show and Children's Musical are this Sunday! You can read below about the variety show, and the Children's Musical "Daniel" is during the 11:00 service this Sunday.

The next two weeks have Confirmation Sunday, and Graduation Sunday back-to-back, so keep all the students involved with those, and any others you know in your prayers as they finish up their semesters.

Also, remember to check out our forums on the website! We'd love to hear how you are getting in shape both spiritually and physically!

You can get there by going to the "Discipleship" tab, then choosing "Discussion Forums." You can also go to www.MasonUMC.org/forums.

Peace,

Ben Wong

Director of Communications

Pastor's Blog

From Pastor Dale:

"I like movies.  I'm not sure where my "love" of the movies came from, I have just always liked movies.  One of the things Shelly and I like to do most for an evening "out" is to scrutinize the listing on Fandango of the movies currently playing and choose one we think we will both like.  (Of course a popcorn and soft drink to share adds to the fun!)

Believe it or not I like seeing what the movie industry calls "trailers" which are billed as the "Coming Attractions."  Even though I think they show way too many of them, trailers are important since they give you a "feel" or "taste" of what a movie that will soon be showing will be like.  My good friend Kevin and I often do a thumbs up or down after a trailer.

In the "spirit" of the movies "Coming Attractions" in the next few weeks you will be hearing about a "coming attraction" to Mason UMC.  Just as a movie "trailer" teases you a bit about what an upcoming movie will be like, let me "tease" you about our "coming attraction" . . ."

Safe Sanctuary DEADLINE: This Sunday, May 5

Just a quick reminder that all adults who work with children and adults should complete a Safe Sanctuary application form as soon as possible. If you need a form, please see Safe Sanctuary Director Jim Sands or Nancy Thomas. Once you have completed the form, return it to Jim, Nancy, or Pastor Lisa. You can also place it in a sealed envelope and drop it in the workroom mail slot marked "Safe Sanctuary."

Our goal is recognize all Safe Sanctuary volunteers on Teacher Appreciation Sunday, May 19th. In order to meet that goal, we need completed applications by Sunday, May 5th. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact any one of the persons named above.

Stephen Ministry

On Sunday, April 28th, Kristen Smith was consecrated as a Stephen Minister with our congregation. She completed significant training for this specialized lay ministry of one-with-one caring. We give thanks to God for her willingness to serve in this important ministry!

Our Stephen Ministers are led by Judy Allison, Vicki Gilmer, and Carter Waide. If you are going through a rough time in life, or know someone at church or in the community who is, the compassion and support of a Stephen Minister may be an answer to prayer. Please see any one of the team leaders or Pastor Lisa if you would like to know more about this ministry or how to receive a care-giver.

Leadership
From Pastor Dale:

Ministry Development/Administration

I want to remind you about this expanded role for Vicki Dudash as we continue to identify new leaders and new areas of ministry for Mason UMC. Vicki's job description was expanded by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee a few months ago.

Vicki's actual job description states: Provide organizational development and team definition of new and existing ministries. Assist leaders with team building and leadership development. Provide assistance with development/definition of new processes and integration within ministries. Assist leaders to determine how they will develop, integrate and execute effective plans and programs to achieve MUMC's vision. Meet with pastors to define / re-define structure and ministry for continued growth and achievement towards fulfillment of MUMC's vision and purpose.

Pastor Dale and Lisa will be utilizing Vicki even more in the near future as administrative and organizational tasks become more evident. So, pray for her as she is asked to work with a variety of ministry areas where more focused time and attention will be helpful or to help focus energy to accomplish designated tasks and goals. If you lead a ministry area and would benefit from her help, please contact her or one of the Pastors.

COACHING:

Pastor Dale has worked with a leadership coach for six years now. His coach has agreed to offer her services to any leader at Mason UMC. Contact Pastor Dale or Pastor Lisa to get that process started if you feel "stuck" or just want to explore new ways to lead through challenges and opportunities.
