Pastor's Blog

From Pastor Dale:

"I spent Monday through Wednesday at a gathering of United Methodist pastors from the top ten percent of churches by size in our denomination. This annual event is the "Large Church Initiative" gathering. This year it was in Tampa, Florida. Sometimes you just have to do what needs doing and suffer through it! I'm just joking, of course. The weather was beautiful and the event was very inspiring.

Jim Harnish, the pastor of Hyde Park United Methodist Church, our host, said that a church must be clear about its mission and purpose. He also made the point that following that clarity of mission the vital church must never confuse mission and method. Method consists of all the ways a goal can be accomplished. There are usually many more than one method which can be used in any given situation. Methods for doing a task often involve taste and preference. When we confuse taste with function or method with mission, there are dire consequences."
