Greetings, MUMC Friends!
I'm going to keep these beginnings brief for a while, as long as the newsletter stays this long... It is so important that you guys read as much of this as you can!
IMPORTANT NOTE: The directories are finally in! Pick yours up at the welcome desk on Sunday. We only have enough to hand out one for each family pictured, so give your name at the desk, and they will get you yours. Unfortunately, we will not have extras.
We are blessed to be an extremely active church, with many studies, outreaches, and other events happening throughout the year. I hope you are involved, and stay involved, because this is what makes the church alive. It's not Sunday worships... it's what happens outside of the hour you are "supposed" to be here.
I'm going to leave you with a line from Dale's blog this week. Be sure to check the whole thing out!
"Where can you offer a kind word, a blessing, a renewing gesture of God's presence?"
Peace,
Ben Wong
Director of Communications

From Pastor Dale:
"Psalm 104 verse 30 says of God, 'when you send forth your spirit, they (all creation) are created; and you renew the face of the (earth).'
I want to share these paragraphs which I read earlier this week: The message of the Spirit is abundance, not scarcity. So how should the church today take this message into the streets? Last fall, our nation was locked in a highly contentious presidential campaign, with anxiety running high as Republicans and Democrats scrambled for every precious vote in an attempt to gain victory for their candidate. The election was a zero-sum game, with every vote for one party being a loss for the other..."

| Stephen Ministry Training Update | | |
One of our recent Stephen Ministry training classes explored one of the more common situations in which they may minister - caring for those experiencing grief. They learned about the shock, recoil, and rebuilding stages of grief and what forms of caregiving are right at each stage. They also look at the many types of losses - in addition to the death of a loved one - that can cause grief and how they can provide care in those instances also.
Please pray for our Stephen Ministry trainees and the uniquely Christian caregiving ministry they are entering.
|
| UMC Missions Update | | |
- FAITH Ministries (emergency relief for local families)
- Hispanic Ministries (working with Hamilton Mission and Esperanza Viva)
- Water Wells, reforestation, and sanitation for impoverished people in Nicaragua
- Disaster relief through UMCOR and the global United Methodist Church
In addition to needing funds these mission priorities need you. God calls us to use our resources to serve the least and the lost with our gifts, our prayers, and our service.
For the next 2 Sundays, April 14th and 21st, there will be Missions Giving envelopes in the Sunday bulletin. Please make a financial contribution to Missions in these envelopes (or mark your checks "for Missions") and then drop it in the collection plate or send to the church. In addition to your financial giving to missions, your prayers and your willingness to serve in community with others are also needed. Watch your bulletin, e-news, and the informational screens at church for ways you can personally respond. Next up is a Matthew 25 Ministries service day, April 27th.
