What to expect regarding REAC Inspections

Delton Nichols, Deputy Director of REAC, advised us yesterday that REAC Inspections could not proceed until the REAC TAC was open and fully operational.  The REAC TAC is open as of today, Friday, October 18th.(see article below for details.)   Inspectors should be calling soon regarding re-scheduling of inspections that were cancelled due to the government shutdown.

He also shared that HUD was "relaxing" its policy of no REAC Inspections during the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas to New Year, at the request of industry stakeholders.  Properties are not obligated to accept an inspection date during those weeks but if you want to have your inspection during those times, you may.

Mr. Nichols asked us to remind properties that REAC Inspections should be scheduled at a mutually convenient time for both the inspector and the property. He further stated that his office would tolerate no "arm twisting" by inspectors in this regarding, asking that any violations of this policy be reported to REAC immediately.

What to expect From REAC TAC

A Message from the REAC Technical Assistance Center:

"Due to the enactment of a continuing resolution, Federal government operations, including HUD's REAC Technical Assistance Center, are now open, with normal TAC operating hours from 7:00AM to 8:30PM Monday through Friday, government holidays and closures excepted.

Last night's enactment of the continuing resolution provided funding for government operations and federal employees were ordered back to work. One of the first actions taken by HUD contracting officials this morning was to rescind the Stop Work Order that resulted in the closure of the TAC.

As soon the Stop Work Order was delivered to the corporate entity which actually employs TAC personnel, TAC staff began receiving notice to report back to the REAC. Regular TAC operations will resume with a full staff tomorrow morning (Friday) at 7:00am Eastern Time.

Please note that if you contacted the REAC TAC while we were closed during the government shutdown and either left a voicemail message or sent us an email, we are already working assiduously to resolve your service request. Please be advised that, while it may take us a few days to work down the backlog, we already have your voicemail or email request and you should expect to receive a closed ticket confirmation by early next week.

If a new matter, i.e., a service request other than one for which you already left a voicemail or sent an email about, arises, please contact us at your convenience. The best times to contact the TAC for the shortest wait times are 7:00 to 9:00AM and 5:30 to 8:30 PM EST. We do anticipate some delays in simultaneously working the backlog and fielding new service requests, but hope to be caught up soon.

Thanks very much,

The REAC TAC Team"
