Chenomx Brings the Value of Metabolomics to
the Bioproduction Industry

Chenomx has over the past 4 years been actively working with Canadian researchers in the area of bioproduction.  In partnership with 8 Canadian universities, 3 government institutions, and 8 other industrial partners, Chenomx leads the way in bringing metabolomics technology to this area of research.  Chenomx wanted to carefully assess the challenges faced in the bioproduction market today, with the help of world renowned researchers, and establish what the needs of this market are that metabolomics can help fill.

Some of the current activities Chenomx are involved in to further this endeavor include:

  • Continuing research partnership with Prof. Marc Aucoin's group at the University of Waterloo.

Professor Marc Aucoin is an expert in baculovirus bioprocessing, and insect cell cultures.  Professor Aucoin has built his research around this expertise including cell culture monitoring, modeling and simulation, and monoclonal antibody production and modification in CHO cells.  Professor Aucoin has an established level 2 laboratory at the University of Waterloo, where he and his students run bench scale to 5L bioreactors.   This collaboration with Professor Aucoin has already established an initial publication, with many more avenues of research to come.  For more information on Professor Aucoin, go here.

  • Chenomx is teaming up with Omic Insight to offer premium services for bioproduction customers.

Omic Insight is a consulting firm that provides expert services and solutions to pinpoint critical information and to streamline manufacturing campaigns in the biotechnology industry.  One of the main challenges with metabolomics data is the overwhelming task of interpreting the data generated.  This partnership with Chenomx's powerful measurement technology and Omic Insights expertise will bring a practical solution of metabolomics to the bioproduction industry.

INTERESTING PAPERS

We have reviewed the research papers that we can find which mention Chenomx during the first half of 2013.

We have found over 75 papers in just those few months -  many make interesting reading.

SOFTWARE TIP!

Consider profiling batches of spectra in a way that improves efficiency (time to profile) and consistency of results. The first step is to establish the identity of metabolite species in your samples.  This will typically involve in-depth analysis of a few spectra to establish confident metabolite IDs.  Once this list of metabolites is established, the rest of the spectra in your study can be analyzed accurately and consistently for the individual metabolite concentrations.  Chenomx NMR Suite has many tools to make this easier, including the files panel, and batch profiling features.  Checking metabolite fits across spectra is as simple as a click of a button.

Upcoming Conferences

SMASH 2013 Conference
September 22 - 25th

Chenomx is sponsoring the SMASH 2013 conference September 22-25, 2013 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain and Neil Taylor will be there.  The SMASH conference concentrates on NMR work with small molecules.  Check the details at http://www.smashnmr.org/.   Please feel free to drop in and talk to Neil if you are going to SMASHnmr this year.

11th PEACe Conference
September 22 - 26th

Dr. David Chang of Chenomx will be attending the 11th Conference on Protein Expression in Animal Cells (PEACe) September 22-26 in Kananaskis, Alberta.  Look for a number of presentations and posters showing NMR applications using Chenomx software in this field.  http://www.peace-conference.org/
