Mark 15:1-5

Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate. "Are you the king of the Jews?" asked Pilate. "You have said so," Jesus replied. The chief priests accused him of many things. So again Pilate asked him, "Aren't you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of." But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.
The religious leaders were so intent on putting Jesus to death that all legal process was disregarded. After secret trials throughout the night, Jesus was bound and hurried to Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea.

Pilate listened to the many charges brought by the chief priests. He was used to the person on trial denying each charge and arguing for acquittal. Pilate was the last stop before freedom or death. Normally the accused pleaded for his or her life, but Jesus did not respond to the accusations and "Pilate was amazed."

Jesus did not respond because he was not a victim to a trial; he was a servant following the Father's plan. The Sinless One gave no defense of his innocence. The time had come for the cross. Jesus was about his Father's business.

Lord Jesus, thank you for bearing my sin in your body on the cross. Thank you for voluntarily dying on my behalf. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. Amen.
