In 1990, Mr. Tom Colasacco donated a collection of photographic negatives from a Mr. Ed Miley to the historical society. This collection contains thousands of negatives of places and people in Dallas, covering over 628 subjects from the 1960s until the 1980s. Mr. Edwin M. Miley was a staff photographer for the Dallas Morning News, and owned his own photography studio on Commerce Street in Dallas. Mr. Miley, a Texas native, studied photography at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He moved to Dallas in 1945 and joined the Morning News as a photographer. He worked for the news for five years after which he opened his own photography studio in 1950. Some of Miley's work appeared in major publications including Time, Life, the Dallas Morning News, and Newsweek magazine and he won numerous awards for his work. Images shown here are from the Mary Kay section of the Miley Collection (V.90.15). For more information about this collection please contact the collections department.
