Food Bank Relocating Southern Maine Warehouse from Portland to Biddeford

Collaboration with Wayside will facilitate continued service to Portland-area agencies

Good Shepherd Food Bank has relocated its Portland distribution center to Biddeford in an effort to improve service to hunger relief agencies in southern Maine. The Food Bank closed the Portland warehouse on June 27 and will begin distribution out of a new facility in Biddeford on July 2.

Good Shepherd Food Bank's new Biddeford distribution center is located at 10 Arctic Circle, close to both Route 1 and Exit 32 on the Maine Turnpike. The Food Bank has two additional distribution centers - our headquarters is located in Auburn and we serve northern and eastern Maine through a warehouse in Brewer.

Free Summer Meals Offered for Kids in Bangor and Brewer

Kids enjoy lunch at the Capehart Community Center in Bangor - one of the Food Bank's five Summer Lunch sites.

Good Shepherd Food Bank is sponsoring five Summer Lunch sites where Bangor & Brewer children (18 and under) can receive free nutritious meals this summer, when the school lunches they depend on during the school year are unavailable.

Through partnerships with the Bangor Housing Authority, Bangor Public Library, Bangor YMCA, and the Brewer Housing Authority, meals will be offered at the Bangor Community Center in Capehart, the Griffin Park playground, the Bangor Pubic Library, the Bangor YMCA, and Rinfret Drive in Brewer.
School Pantry Program Expanded to 7 New Schools in 6 Counties

The Food Bank is working with many schools across the state to expand the School Pantry program to provide kids and families with the nutritious food they need.

It can be difficult for working families to access the resources they need due to transportation barriers and hours of distribution at local food pantries. The School Pantry program reaches families by providing food assistance in a place where kids go daily - school. By working with teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors, the Food Bank is able to target assistance to kids and families in need of a helping hand.

The School Pantry expansion is supported by community-based sponsors and national funders. Morgan Stanley provided a $25,000 grant to start five additional School Pantries. In addition, a locally-owned Dunkin' Donuts is sponsoring a School Pantry in Auburn and a local church is sponsoring a School Pantry in Whitefield.
