Add / Drops for Semester 2
Any student who would like to add or drop a class for the second semester must get an add / drop form from his/her advisor by Friday, January 15, 2016. The student must get the signature of the teacher of the class to be dropped and the signature of the teacher of the class to be added. The form also requires a parental signature. Once these signatures are obtained, the student must then return the forms to her/his class advisor. The advisor will check whether the proposed changes fit the regulations for MLHS attendance and graduation. If this is satisfactory, the advisor will give the form to Student Records to determine if the changes can be accommodated in the master schedule. The entire process should take no more than two or three days. During that time, the student remains in the originally assigned class.

SEMESTER 1 GRADE REPORTS
Grade reports are scheduled to be mailed out the end of this week to parents who are up to date with their tuition accounts. If you did not receive a report, first contact Mrs. Otte in the financial office at 429-7861.

BLOOD DRIVE AT ML

Blood donors wanted!  The Festival Singers of Michigan Lutheran High School will be sponsoring a blood drive on campus on Friday, January 15, 2016, from 8:00 AM-1:00 PM.  If you are interested in donating blood, please call the MLHS Music Department Office to schedule a time by Wednesday, January 13th.  Thank you for considering this special opportunity to help others!

CLASS RINGS AVAILABLE

Next week the Sophomore students will be getting some information regarding class rings to bring home.   The Herff Jones Rep. will be at ML on Friday, January 29th during lunch hour to show some samples and possibly get some class ring orders from these students.   The class rings are not mandatory.   If you have any questions regarding this, please give the school office a call.

Study Abroad Opportunity
Students from around the world come to our school, have you ever considered studying abroad for one high school year?
One of our partner organizations in placing international students at Michigan Lutheran High School is offering one American student the chance of a lifetime. ASSE, International is now taking applications for the Jodi Keifer Memorial Scholarship for the 2016-2017 school year. This scholarship covers 100% of the 1-year program fee, comprehensive insurance, monthly pocket money, one optional field trip in the host country, and roundtrip airfare for one highly motivated student who lacks the funding to be able to participate in an exchange program.
Applicants must be between 15 and 18.5 years of age at the time of depature and have a minimum GPA of 3.4.
If this sounds like something you would like to do, please speak with Mrs. Heidi Plocher to apply online at www.asse.com by March 1, 2016.

Host a Student, Make a Friend
We're looking ahead to the 2016-2017 school year! Applications for host families are now being accepted. Please contact Heidi Plocher, internationals@michiganlutheran.org if you are interested in hosting a student during the following time frames: 1 academic year, Labor Day weekend (4 days), Fall mini-break (4-5 days in October TBD), Thanksgiving Break, Christmas/Semester Break, Spring Break, Easter mini-break. All host families during these time frames will receive compensation. When you open your home to an international student, you join us in our mission of sharing the love of Christ with these students, also known as "Friendship Evangelism". Happy New Year and God's richest blessings to you all!

MLHS Alumni Association

The MLHS Alumni Association is now accepting donations for the 2016 Silent Auction scheduled for February 19th & 20th. Our goal each year is to meet or exceed the prior year's donation total ($10,000) for the Tuition Assistance Program, but this can only happen through your generous support. Please consider contributing an item for our silent auction. We ask that all items donated are new. If you have any questions on an item that you want to donate, please contact anyone of the alumni officers or committee members. Some items that have sold well in past auctions are gift baskets, furniture, appliances, gift certificates, sporting events tickets, sporting goods, food items, electronic equipment, etc. Monetary donations are also accepted. Please contact the MLHS office for alumni contacts. Looking forward to seeing you at the 2016 Silent Auction and Festivities!

Attention Senior Parents:
It is time for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This is a form that everyone should complete as it helps with financing college. If you do not qualify for federal aid, states and colleges use this information to determine financial aid for scholarships, grants, loans, etc.   You must file in Michigan between January 1, 2016 and March 1, 2016.  You must begin the process be obtaininga PIN.  You get this by going to https://pin.ed.gov/.  The sooner you file, the better financial aid package you will receive.  You do NOT have to be finished with your Income Tax to complete this form.   There will be a spot to estimate based on your previous year's income taxes.

Experts will be on hand at Lake Michigan College on February 27th from 11am-1pm to help you fill out the FAFSA. There are flyers on the table in the center hallway for more information.

Here is a scholarship opportunity from the state:
Create a video for chance to win scholarship money
High school students: Here's a chance to win a $3,000 scholarship! Create your own video on the dangers of underage drinking or the dangers of texting while driving and submit it by February 11 at courageouspersuaders.com.
More than $27,000 in scholarships will be awarded. In addition, the grand prize-winning student will receive the opportunity to participate in a professional editing session to make the video broadcast-ready. The winning commercial will be broadcast on the Courageous Persuaders website and on network television.

The PSAT scores are online!
To access your child's online scores, your student will need to create a college board account online at collegeboard.org.  You and your child will then be able to see their scores. A paper version of these scores won't be available until the beginning of February.  Any questions please contact Mrs. Elder at 269-429-7861 ext: 203 or telder@michiganlutheran.org

The trip to visit MLC is scheduled for Feb. 3-6
This trip is highly recommended for those Juniors and Seniors who are interested on attending MLC for college.  MLS will be picking students up from MLHS at night on Feb.3 and returning late Feb. 6.  This does interfere with basketball games.   We are trying to add a second trip for those basketball players that would like to visit MLC but can't go on this trip.   For more information please contact Mrs. Elder.
