MLHS OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED
The MLHS front office will be closed December 24 - January 4, 2016.

Divine Call Accepted

Pastor Schneider has accepted the call to serve at Christ Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE.  We are thankful for his past 19 1/2 years of service at MLHS and we pray that the Lord blesses his new ministry in Nebraska.  On January 3rd, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stevensville will have a portion of their service dedicated to wishing Pastor Tom and Jane Schneider farewell. A card box and snacks will be available after the 8 and 10:30 AM services as an opportunity to personally greet them and thank them for their ministry at Michigan Lutheran High School.  The MLHS family is invited to use this as an opportunity to say thank you and farewell to Tom and Jane shortly before they move to Nebraska.  Cards can also be sent to MLHS attn: Pastor Schneider
The administration is working on how his classes and responsibilities will be covered during the second semester.  This plan will be formalized and approved by the Board of Regents in their meeting on Tuesday.  When this is determined, the information will be sent to parents.

EXAM SCHEDULE 1st Semester 2015/16

- Semester exams begin on Monday, December 21 and continue through Wednesday, December 23.
- While every effort is made to schedule so that no conflicts occur, it  may not be possible to avoid them all. If your student has two exams scheduled for the same hour, it is her/his responsibility to talk to the teachers involved to set up an alternative testing time for one of the conflicting exams.
- Students who have first hour exams are expected to remain for chapel and those who start their day with second hour exams should arrive on time for chapel, which precedes second hour.

EXAM Cookie Break

 December 23, before the final exam, the Student Council is hosting a cookie break. They are asking that each student or family send a plate of cookies to school on that Wednesday morning. The Student Council will provide beverages.

FRESHMAN PARTICIPATING IN PILOT PROGRAM FOR
STANDARDIZED TEST
The MLHS freshman class has been invited to participate in an important educational research project. This project is a pilot study for a test from NCS Pearson Inc. called the Verbal Pilot Study.   The test will be designed to identify students who will succeed in accelerated classes in high school. Your child's participation will help to identify those test items that most accurately predict future success for this program.   This is only a sample form. They will be taking two tests and each one will take approximately 60 minutes.   The tests will be taken during regular class periods over the course of January 6-8th.   All results will be kept strictly confidential.   There is no advanced preparation needed for our students, and it will give them valuable practice in high-level reasoning test items.   If, for any reason, you do not want your child to participate in this pilot study, please let Mrs. Elder or Mr. Herbst know as soon as possible.

Study Abroad Opportunity
Students from around the world come to our school, have you ever considered studying abroad for one high school year?
One of our partner organizations in placing international students at Michigan Lutheran High School is offering one American student the chance of a lifetime. ASSE, International is now taking applications for the Jodi Keifer Memorial Scholarship for the 2016-2017 school year. This scholarship covers 100% of the 1-year program fee, comprehensive insurance, monthly pocket money, one optional field trip in the host country, and roundtrip airfare for one highly motivated student who lacks the funding to be able to participate in an exchange program.
Applicants must be between 15 and 18.5 years of age at the time of depature and have a minimum GPA of 3.4.
If this sounds like something you would like to do, please speak with Mrs. Heidi Plocher to apply online at www.asse.com by March 1, 2016.

MLHS Alumni Association

The MLHS Alumni Association is now accepting donations for the 2016 Silent Auction scheduled for February 19th & 20th. Our goal each year is to meet or exceed the prior year's donation total ($10,000) for the Tuition Assistance Program, but this can only happen through your generous support. Please consider contributing an item for our silent auction. We ask that all items donated are new. If you have any questions on an item that you want to donate, please contact anyone of the alumni officers or committee members. Some items that have sold well in past auctions are gift baskets, furniture, appliances, gift certificates, sporting events tickets, sporting goods, food items, electronic equipment, etc. Monetary donations are also accepted. Please contact the MLHS office for alumni contacts. Looking forward to seeing you at the 2016 Silent Auction and Festivities!

Ken Kruck, MLHS Alumni President

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

To all who have helped with the International Program this year, thank you! The program wouldn't have become as successful as it has without each and every one of you. This program is so much larger than any one person, and God has blessed me in so many ways through you. There are far too many people to name in this tiny space, but know that if you recognize yourself as a helper, I know who you are and I have thanked God numerous times for your generosity of spirit and abundance of kindness toward these students.

My request as of this writing? Please keep these students in your prayers as they head away from campus next week. Pray that their travels are safe and, most importantly, that the Christmas message brings them a measure of hope and peace this year.

In Service to our King,
Heidi L. Plocher
International Program Coordinator

Attention Senior Parents:
 It is time for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This is a form that everyone should complete as it helps with financing college. If you do not qualify for federal aid, states and colleges use this information to determine financial aid for scholarships, grants, loans, etc.   You must file in Michigan between January 1, 2016 and March 1, 2016.  You must begin the process be obtaininga PIN.  You get this by going to https://pin.ed.gov/.  The sooner you file, the better financial aid package you will receive.  You do NOT have to be finished with your Income Tax to complete this form.   There will be a spot to estimate based on your previous year's income taxes.

Experts will be on hand at Lake Michigan College on February 27th from 11am-1pm to help you fill out the FAFSA. There are flyers on the table in the center hallway for more information.

ALUMNI
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mollie Kruck, Class of 2009, has been named Assistant Director of the Niles History Center. Mollie earned a Bachelor's Degree in Public History from Western Michigan University and is in the process of getting her Master's Degree in Museum Studies from The University of Oklahoma.   Although it is hard for Mollie to leave her current position as Curator of The Heritage Museum in St. Joseph, this new position offers her a great opportunity.
Congratulations to Hailey Maas, Class of 2015, for being named the National Junior College Athletic Association DII Women's Player of the Week.  Hailey averaged over 23 Points per game and over 10 Rebounds per game in LMC's three wins this week.  Way to go Hailey!
