Divine Call Received
Please keep Pastor Tom Schneider and his wife, Jane, in your prayers as Pastor has recently received a call to serve at Christ Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE.  What this means is that Pastor now deliberates where he can best serve the Lord, at MLHS or at Christ.  In the next few weeks, Pastor and Jane will be gathering information and talking to people from ML and from Christ to decide where the Lord leads him to serve.  Please offer input and prayers.

Junior Class Chili Supper
The Chili Supper is Sunday, December 6, prior to the Christmas Concert.  The supper takes place from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in the MPR.  Free-will offerings will be accepted toward the supper.  Christmas cookies and candy will be sold by the pound.

2015 MLHS Christmas Concerts
That's right - this year the students of the MLHS Music Department will be presenting TWO completely unique concert performances to help kick off your Christmas celebration! Join us for BOTH of them!

The Christmas Pops! Concert will be performed at 4:15 PM on Sunday, December 6th. This concert will be presented by the band students in our elementary and high school programs and will feature a mix of sacred and secular Christmas favorites.

At 7:00 PM that same day (Dec. 6) we will also present this year's Sacred Christmas Concert - "Born is the King!" The band and choir students of the high school programs, as well as the Adult Lutheran Chorale of Michiana, will perform a mix of carols and anthems to help you prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus, our Savior and King.

Please consider joining us for BOTH of these wonderful concert events! In addition, we will also have our annual Chili Supper and Cookie Walk from 5:00-7:00 PM, hosted by the Class of 2017, so come for both concerts and stay for supper in between!

  PROJECT CHRISTMAS

With God's blessings we are again planning "Project Christmas." In this effort, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Benton Harbor, in cooperation with fellow WELS in the area (and some from farther away), and with assistance from a Thrivent grant, provides packages of food, clothing, and wrapped gifts for children to 90 needy Benton Harbor area families. We have scheduled the special distribution day for Saturday, December 12. A meal for all invited families and volunteers is also planned. We try to follow-up with the good news of Jesus to any unchurched families.
We would greatly appreciate any help your church members, Christian day school or sunday school children could give.
We ask that gifts for the needy families be brought to St. Matthew's during the week of December 7- 11(before Friday if possible).

Praying for God's blessings,
St. Matthew's Lutheran Church 269-925-7292

Please call the above with any questions about Project Christmas 2014. To arrange a time to drop off food or other donated items before the week of December 7-11, please call our church office at the number listed above.

If you do not qualify for federal aid, states and colleges use this information to determine financial aid for scholarships, grants, loans, etc.   You must file in Michigan between January 1, 2016 and March 1, 2016.  You must begin the process be procuring a PIN.  You get this by going to https://pin.ed.gov/ before January 1.  The sooner you file, the better financial aid package you will receive.  You do NOT have to be finished with your Income Tax to complete this form.   There will be a spot to estimate based on your previous year's income taxes.

Home for the Holidays

To those who hosted students over the past Thanksgiving Break, I would like to express my sincere thanks for your willingness to open your homes to them! I hope you made some great memories together! Please share any photos you may have taken, along with a brief story about your time together.

If you were not able to host this time, we are looking ahead to housing needs during the Christmas Break. We have a number of students who will be staying in the United States during that time, and they will need a place to call home while the Titan Center is closed. Students will need housing from the afternoon of Wednesday, December 23 until Tuesday, January 5.

On that note, we have a number of students who are heading home to China or Korea for the break. I am looking for a few people to help transport students to the airport during the early hours of Wednesday, December 23. You will be compensated.

Please contact Heidi Plocher by next Wednesday, December 9 if you are interested in helping with either of the above opportunities: [email protected], or call: 556.9270, ext 1313.

 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Volunteer - It's just what you do!
That's what my parents would say, and also what they taught me to do.  As most of you know, I was one of the 16 students who started at ML back in 1970.  My best friend Amy Brenner picked the name Titans (could have been ocelots!) and I picked the purple and white colors.  I remember scraping grout off brick walls as the current building was going up.  My husband Jeff (ML '75) and I were able to see all four of our kids graduate from ML.
Volunteering at ML is not a job, most of the time it's a joy!  I have been a Monday Mom since 1991, ran the ML Spirit Shop, kept scorebook for basketball, softball, and baseball, helped in concessions, am involved with the ML Alumni Association, and on the ML Recruitment Committee.   By volunteering you get to meet your kids friends, parents, and teachers.  You become part of the ML family.  I couldn't always financially help ML but I could give my time.  This school was built by volunteers - from the men who thought Southwest Michigan needed a Lutheran high School, the Association members , the BOR, all those who donated hours to help build this school so the debt wouldn't be so high, ticket takers, lawn mowers, painters, concession workers and the list goes on.  I volunteer because someone needs to.   Do I always want to do it?  No.  But someone volunteered so I could enjoy a Christian education.   Now it's my turn so other kids can enjoy MLHS.  May God continue to bless Good Old ML, Cheryl Breinling

                                               Answering God's Call
It all happened with just one single phone call. A call I wasn't
sure I wanted to make. As I dialed the phone I knew I would regret it.
I was going to be spending one day a week working. I had never worked
outside my home. But, I made the call anyway.  Cheryl Breinling answered on the third ring. I asked if she still had room for one more to cook on Mondays. I later found out when Cheryl hung up laughing, she told her husband, I had asked if they had
room for me.
I have been there now for 23 years.  Cheryl and I have cooked up
more than cheese burgers and fries together. I have never spent one
Monday regretting being there. Jo-Ann and John Eggert, who run the
program, was also a wonderful addition to my life.  They made me
welcome and have made me laugh many times in the years I have spent in
the kitchen cooking. The added bonus is my best friend Cheryl.

                                          With God's Blessings,
                                                    Pat Siler
