Class schedules and more about school pictures will come in a separate mailing the first week in August.  If changes need to be made, these should go through our Registrar, Mr. Pappenfuss (ext. 206) or apappenfuss@michiganlutheran.org.

Success is a Joint Effort

MLHS's cultural exchange aspect of our international program is currently in need of two more host famililies willing to commit for one year.  The blessings that have come as a result of our international ministry at Michigan Lutheran High School are numerous.  However, the program is only as successful as the persons who invest in it.  We need YOU!  As our international reach grows, more families are needed to support this ministry.  You make this program terrific.

Families are needed to house students on brakes, dorm closures, and vacations. The length of time might be a weekend, a month, or a year.  It is during these situations that friendships are made.  Our country and our church body operate on a global scale.  And, now, so does our school.  Be a part of this ministry!  Your lives will be will be enriched and your faith life will grow as you share your love of Christ with others in a very tangible way.

"I thought international students lived in the dorm.   Why do you need housing?"

GREAT QUESTION!

ML is able to provide an education to two types of international students.  The first type of student (J1) must live with a host family.  This student attends our school on a government-sponsored visa and may only visit for one year as a form of "cultural exchange."  The second type of student is one who applies directly to our school seeking a diploma from Michigan Lutheran High School.  This type of student resides at the Titan Center during the school year with family placements during school breaks and dorm closings.

Contrary to many other foreign exchange programs, MLHS does offer a stipend to families who host J1 students.  Pro-rated stipends are provided to those families who host students during vacations which require a dorm closure.

If interested, please send a message to the International Program Coordinator:

GRENADA :: Through a partnership with Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) and Kingdom Workers, Grace Lutheran Church in Grenada was able to implement an agricultural community outreach program that has never been done on the island. It is called Aquaponics. That is the practice of raising fish and growing vegetables in a self-contained system at the home level. While that sounds simple enough, the amazing part is that this can change Grenada and grow the ministry of Grace in a...mazing ways at the same time!

"Aquaponics is a way to get your foot in the door. [You] really get to meet a lot of people. From the training, we had a number of people who were in church who never would have come to Grace otherwise. They got to hear the message from Pastor Dan Rautenberg for maybe the first time." volunteer Zachery Pappenfuss (MLHS Class of 2011).  In the end, 15 of the 54 folks from the workshop attended church the first week after the training, with six becoming members of Grace in the following weeks!

This will be our primary organizational time for this year's pep band m

Festival Singers Rehearsals
The Festival Singers will have their first rehearsals from August 10-14, as follows: August 10-12 from 2:45-4:00 PM, and August 13-14 from 2:45-3:30 PM.
These initial rehearsals will give us some time to discover our new sound for the group, as well as check out some of our music for the first part of the year.  Please mark your calendars and plan to be at these rehearsals.  See you in August!

SENIORS:
Selective Service Registration
Federal law says that all 18-year-old men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday.  Registration takes only a few minutes and can be accomplished by visiting www.sss.gov.  For additional information, call 1-847-688-6888.  Failure to register can lead to fines, prison, or withholding of college grants.

MORE CLASS OPTIONS FOR MLHS STUDENTS
MLHS is improving its course offerings once again this year.  Last year, ML implemented AP Chemistry and AP Stats right here at ML as well as did a trial run of online course offerings through Area Lutheran High Schools Online (ALHSO) where students took online AP US History as well as a Graphics Design course.  This test run went very well and now we are opening this up to juniors and seniors this school year to take up to 20 additional online classes through ALHSO.  What a blessing this resource will be to our students as they can seek out additional electives and courses that will benefit them in their own areas of interest.  Our WELS Area Lutheran High Schools are working together to improve the quality of our already high standards and giving schools with limited resources this wonderful opportunity to expand our offerings through this great program.
