Changes in the Athletic Calendar this Weekend

SOCCER ANNOUNCEMENT

The Soccer game this Friday at Grace Christian will start at 4:00.

FOOTBALL ANNOUNCEMENT

The Football scrimmage this Saturday will not be played at Tekonsha. The scrimmage will be played at Litchfield at 10:00.

The varsity volleyball tournament this Saturday is played at the Krush Complex.(1720 Terminal Road, Niles, 49120)

ADD/DROPS

The current MLHS Students have until Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014 to add or drop a class. If they have any questions concerning their current schedule they need to speak with their advisor or Mr. Herbst.

Picture Day

Picture Day will be Tuesday, September 9 during the regular school day.

Look for Forms to come home the week of Sept. 2. You will be able to place

your order online, or send the form back to school with your student.

If you will not be ordering any pictures, the form will not need to be returned, although everyone's picture will be taken this day for the MLHS Yearbook.

PAPER DRIVE FOR MLHS

MLHS is hosting a Paper Drive THIS SATURDAY from 8:00 am - NOON in the back of ML. Please bring your recycled papers/magezines/broken down boxes to the truck. This event is hosted by Student Council. Thank you!

See Stangl and Sill with the Symphony!

This weekend Mr. Stangl and MLHS sophomore Emma Sill will be joining the South Bend Symphony Orchestra to kick off their 2014-2015 concert season for a performance of Tschaikovsky's famous "1812 Overture." The concert will be held at the Chris Wilson Pavilion in Potawatomi Park in South Bend, beginning at 7:00 PM on Saturday, August 23rd.

This performance is the second community "play-along" event that has been sponsored by the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County and the South Bend Symphony Orchestra since it began in 2013. Mr. Stangl and Emma will join about 50 other community musicans, including our own David Koester and his wife Lisa, and the South Bend Symphony orchestra in the final selection of their concert Saturday evening.

All MLHS band and choir students who attend will receive 20 points towards their Fine Arts Letter for this year. Please consider attending this fun event! In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors at John Adams High School, just down the street from Potawatomi Park.

SPORTS PASSES

A family sports pass is now available from the athletic department, and can be purchased from the ticket takers at any MLHS home game. The pass will allow admittance to all immediate family members (living at home) at all home games (not valid at away games nor any MHSAA district tournaments or Lutheran elementary school tournaments played at MLHS) for the 2012-2013 school year. The cost of the pass is $109. Sorry, but the family pass is not valid for football.

Ticket prices for home games will be $2 for kindergarten through eighth grade, $5 for ninth grade through adult. Admittance is free for children who are not yet in kindergarten and for adults 65 and older. MLHS students will not need to pay an admission fee for home events.

Students: Be sure to sign up for pizza in the MPR so we can have a good count.

International Students at MLHS:

MLHS has been blessed to enroll 8 (soon to be 10) international students for the 2014-15 school year.

From South Korea: Daniel (Joon) Lee, Donghee Lee, June (JuYeon) Lee, Louie (JiHwan) Lim, Ryan (SiWon) Yun and , and AJ (Hyeukjin) Yang.

From China: Johnson (Keju) Zhou, Saul (Yijun) Wang, and AJ Yang.

We will be adding 2 more Chinese students in the next few weeks (a boy and a girl).

Please reach out to these students with your help, and kind hearts. Let your light shine! God extends his love to all cultures and all people. Praise God for the chance to learn more about these individuals and their cultures and also to teach them about ours.

Color Run Team Participants Wanted

The Color Run is a 5 K walk/run that will be touring in South Bend, IN on September 27, 2014. " The Color Run was founded in March of 2011 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in the 'Happiest 5k on the Planet'."

Ms. Sperle is getting a team together from ML! If you are interested please register at thecolorrun.com/s-bend. You will need to sign up with your personal information, and then click on team runner, and join the existing team named "Michigan Lutheran Color Runners." The cost will be $40 per participant through August 15th. After the 15th the price goes up to $45.

Hunter Safety Class Available

There will be a Hunter Safety Class available at Watervliet Rod and Gun Club.

Registration will be on Thursday, August 28 between 6-7 p.m.

The class will run from 9 - 5:30 on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6,7.

SENIORS:

Selective Service Registration

Federal law says that all 18-year-old men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Registration takes only a few minutes and can be accomplished by visiting www.sss.gov. For additional information, call 1-847-688-6888. Failure to register can lead to fines, prison, or withholding of college grants.

TRANSCRIPT REQUEST?

Our office has gone to an online transfer of documents called "Parchment". Parchment is an online database that will transfer an official transcript to a college, or address requesting it. You can request your transcript by going to our ML Website: www.michiganlutheran.org and clicking on the box, "Request my transcript" on the right side of the home page. If you have any questions about this service, please contact Mrs. Sievert in the Office.
