A message from our Principal about China Trip

From April 9-April 21, I had the distinct opportunity to promote Michigan Lutheran High School  in China.  I traveled with nine other high school representatives from New York, California, Arizona, Florida, and Texas.  I attended seven school fairs presenting to over 500 people the blessings of being a Titan and attending MLHS.  I was able to see what life in Chinese middle school is like and witness their joy in seeing Americans in their school.  I had my face painted by a bunch of Chinese kids in our Easter party, won a stuffed bunny during an Easter egg decoration contest, and ate foods I probably may never eat again.  Over my time there, it struck me more than ever how ML is carrying out the Lord's work everyday and how we too often take for granted the blessing of a Christian Education.  I had the privilege of doing this trip over holy week and Easter.  Knowing the lengths my Lord went for me, led me to pray even more earnestly that he leads ML to have the opportunity to be the place for these students to spend their high school years.  Over the next few weeks we will begin hearing from these students and families as they consider where they might attend high school in America.  Please pray boldly and confidently with me that these students decide on ML.  Christian education is a gift that we now have the opportunity to share farther than the founders of this high school ever imagined.

                Easter Party Face Painting

I need to thank the faculty and staff for covering for me while I was gone.  They stepped up and I came back to the ship still sailing the same direction!  They did more than I could have imagined and they are to be commended for their faithful efforts.  Also, thank you to Coach Fager and David Kenyon for heading up the girls soccer team in my absence.  It was a sacrifice to your schedules to offer up your time and energy and it does not go unnoticed.  Finally, thank you to my wife.  People couldn't believe that I was able to leave home for that long with three little boys at home.  I know it wasn't always easy, but you made it seem that way.  Our home life runs smoothly only because of you and your love and commitment.

Finally, thank you to the MLHS family for allowing me this opportunity and praying for and supporting this vision of the future of our high school.  Hang on, it's going to be an exciting journey!

Update on Student Housing at MLHS

MLHS is working on policies and costs associated with our new student housing which will be up and running next school year.  Our website will have the handbook, application, and financial information available soon.  The housing is for both international and domestic students.  Pass it along to your friends outside of our area who may be interested in a Lutheran secondary education at ML!

Be an International Ambassador

Your help is needed in the upcoming months. Please consider opening your hearts and homes to one of our international students. Various levels of hosting opportunities are available, and in some instances, you will receive adequate compensation to offset any extra costs incurred in doing so.  If you have any questions about the host family program, please contact Heidi Plocher at 269-429-7861 ext. 211 or email at internationals@michiganlutheran.org

Selective Service Registration

Federal law says that all 18-year-old men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday.  Registration takes only a few minutes and can be accomplished by visiting www.sss.gov.  For additional information, call 1-847-688-6888.  Failure to register can lead to fines, prison, or withholding of college grants.

ATTENTION GRADUATING CLASS OF 2014

The 2014 Michigan Lutheran High School Commencement Service will be on Sunday, May 25 in the ML Gymnasium.  It is this same weekend that the Senior PGA Tournament will be in the area.  Kids under 18 are admitted free to this event with a paid adult.  This will be a busy time; therefore, hotels/motels will need to be rented in advance.  Please make plans early in order to adequately find sleeping arrangements for extended family that will be in the area during this important time.

ATTENTION SENIORS and PARENTS

This is just a reminder that there will be a $25.50 fee for graduation caps and gowns for which each of our seniors was measured.  They can be picked up from the ML Office beginning May 12.  Robes should be taken out of the wrap and hung on a hanger immediately so that they are not wrinkled for commencement services.

 SCRIP PROGRAM

Again this year, parents who participate in the Scrip program will split the profits generated with Michigan Lutheran. Specifically, 50% of the profits will be applied to the student's tuition; the other 50% will be kept by ML for current expenses.  Relatives and friends may help increase an ML parent's order by having their orders placed on the ML parent's order form. If you have questions, please call Mrs. Bette Otte at 429-7861, ex. 212.

Scrip orders need to be turned in by 9:00 am on Mondays. These orders will normally be available for pickup by Thursday of the same week. Orders placed after 9:00 am may not be available until the following week.
