NATIONAL HONOR BLOOD DRIVE A SUCCESS

The NHS Chapter of MLHS held it's first service project on April 12 when the ML gym became a spot to help others by donating blood.  More than twenty-three people participated and eighteen units of blood were donated to the Red Cross of America.  This was just the first of many service projects that The National Honor Society will host in the coming year.  Thanks to everyone who helped with this event!

International Trip

Our principal, Matt Herbst, is currently in China on an extensive tour which has included meeting students, learning about the Chinese educational system, learning how to make our high school accessible to our global friends, and giving a speech before highly-esteemed government officials and business leaders in the education sector.  Mr. Herbst has continually been blessed with the opportunity to meet with numerous students and their parents to share the benefits of an education gained at Michigan Lutheran High School. Continue to keep him in your prayers as he begins to turn his thoughts toward home and how to best implement all that he's learned while on this trip.

Update on Student Housing at MLHS

MLHS is working on policies and costs associated with our new student housing which will be up and running next school year.  Our website will have the handbook, application, and financial information available next week.  The housing is for both international and domestic students.  Pass it along to your friends outside of our area who may be interested in a Lutheran secondary education at ML!

Be an International Ambassador

Your help is needed in the upcoming months. Please consider opening your hearts and homes to one of our international students. Various levels of hosting opportunities are available, and in some instances, you will receive adequate compensation to offset any extra costs incurred in doing so.  If you have any questions about the host family program, please contact Heidi Plocher at 269-429-7861 ext. 211 or email at internationals@michiganlutheran.org

Selective Service Registration

Federal law says that all 18-year-old men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday.  Registration takes only a few minutes and can be accomplished by visiting www.sss.gov.  For additional information, call 1-847-688-6888.  Failure to register can lead to fines, prison, or withholding of college grants.

ATTENTION SENIORS and PARENTS

This is just a reminder that there will be a $25.50 fee for graduation caps and gowns for which each of our seniors was measured.  They can be picked up from the ML Office beginning May 12.  Robes should be taken out of the wrap and hung on a hanger immediately so that they are not wrinkled for commencement services.

 SCRIP PROGRAM

Again this year, parents who participate in the Scrip program will split the profits generated with Michigan Lutheran. Specifically, 50% of the profits will be applied to the student's tuition; the other 50% will be kept by ML for current expenses.  Relatives and friends may help increase an ML parent's order by having their orders placed on the ML parent's order form. If you have questions, please call Mrs. Bette Otte at 429-7861, ex. 212.

Scrip orders need to be turned in by 9:00 am on Mondays. These orders will normally be available for pickup by Thursday of the same week. Orders placed after 9:00 am may not be available until the following week.
