 PROJECT CHRISTMAS

With God's blessings we are again planning "Project Christmas."*  In this effort, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Benton Harbor, in cooperation with fellow WELS in the area (and some from farther away), and with assistance from a Thrivent grant, provides packages of food, clothing, and wrapped gifts for children to 90 needy Benton Harbor area families. We have scheduled the special Distribution Day for Saturday, December 14. A meal for all invited families and volunteers is also planned. We try to include and follow-up with the good news of Jesus to any unchurched families.

We would greatly appreciate any help your church members, Christian Day School or Sunday School children could give.

These are possible ways for your congregations and/or individual members to help:

1.      Adopt a needy family for whom gifts are bought and wrapped.
2.      Contribute non-perishable food items.
3.      Make Monetary contributions.
4.      Bring in good quality used clothing, bedding, towels, blankets, diapers, and sleepers.
5.      Contribute like-new toys and Bible-based children's books and coloring books.
6.      Volunteer to sort, set-up, clean-up items, etc. during the week of December  9 - 13.
7.      Pray for God's blessing on "Project Christmas."

At this time we especially want to know which of our fellow congregations wish to adopt needy families for Project Christmas, and how many families you think your congregation members might adopt. Once we have the estimated number of families your congregation will sponsor, we will provide a list of families with a tag and information for each family. Your members who wish to sponsor a family can then pick a tag with the necessary information. We plan, God-willing, to have these lists and tags to your church before Thanksgiving so that you can post them.

We ask that gifts for the needy families be brought to St. Matthew's during the week of December 9 - 13 (before Friday if possible).

Praying for God's blessings,

Pastor Jeremy Laitinen, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church
Or Christina Wehrly, Secretary (church office)

Please call the above with any questions about Project Christmas 2013. To arrange a time to drop off food or other donated items before the week of December 9-13, please call our church office at the number listed above.

*"Project Christmas" is now also being called "Star of Hope" to co-ordinate with the other charitable and outreach efforts being undertaken at St. Matthew's School building under the name, "Projects of Hope".

Thanksgiving Holiday
Both the school and financial offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 for the holiday.  Regular classes begin again on Monday, December 2, at 8 AM.  We pray that you and your family have a safe and happy break, and that you use this opportunity to thank our Lord for His many gifts of grace.  PLEASE NOTE:  No SCRIP orders will be taken during the week of November 25.  We apologize for any inconvenience.
