Hispanic in Southwest Michigan
Hispanic Outreach
- In March, Pastor Tim Flunker, WELS Hispanic Outreach Consultant, came to meet with people from our area churches to discuss starting a new outreach to the Hispanic population in and around us.  Pastor Flunker gave a presentation detailing how even we here in southwest Michigan can work to spread the Gospel with no prior Spanish language training.  It's exciting to think we can play a part in building relationships and showing Christian love in simple ways that can have an eternal impact.
An "awareness session" at ML is planned for Friday, April 26, at 7:00pm to discuss if Hispanic Outreach is feasible in our area.  A Mexican meal will be served during the meeting.

ML Students are encouraged to help with this event.

Robotics

Congratulations to the CW Tech Robotarians for a fantastic weekend at the Michigan State Competition. Of the sixty-four teams there, they finished in the top 10 for total points scored and points per match,  with top 5 for scoring accuracy. The Robotarians were also presented with the "Rockwell Automation Innovation in Control Award by the event judges." Based on the team's performance during the season and awards received, they qualify for the first time in team history to compete at FIRST World Championship to be held in St. Louis April 24th to 27th. If you wish to support our efforts and travel expences to Saint Louis, MS, you can send contributions to MLHS.  Please make known that the donation is for the CW Tech Robotics.

ALUMNI NEWS

Our very own Willy Kruck is a current honors student at Ferris State and a graduate of ML class of 2012.   He was recently accepted to Disney College intern program.  He will represent the Disney organization at Disneyland in Florida.  Willy will work in Orlando beginning in August and ending in January 2014.   Many people in the nation apply but only a few are accepted.  This is a tribute to ML and it's fine program for our Christian young people.

Jennifer Jackemeyer (ML Class of 2012) won 3rd place for academic writing in the Walter Cunningham writing competition recently. She won a monetary prize along with having her name inscribed on a plaque in the Language and Humanities Hall. In addition, her essay will be published online at http://www.inscriptionsjournal.org/writing/walter-cunningham-writing-contest/2013-walter-cunningham-writing-contest/

 PATRIOTISM SHOWN BY ML STUDENTS

I would like to extend a thank you to seniors Rachel Mischke, Brandon Lucius, Justin Lietz, and Aubrey Boldt for taking time out of their senior class trip to Washington D.C. to assist the St. Joe Valley Blue Star Mothers IN #6 with delivering donations to Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.  They took the Metro and met us at the facility.  They helped to unload 3,000 pounds of donations.  After everything was brought inside, these students went out and talked to the wounded and ill military members.  They helped to pass out 300 goodie bags to our military men and women.  These students have helped with other projects in the past, but this experience gave them the opportunity to actually see how we help our heroes.

These student showed not only true patriotism, but were also good examples of Christian men and women.

Rachel, Brandon, and Aubrey will be assisting by leading the singing of the National Anthem at an event on April 20th.
