2013 - 2014 Freshman Testing and Registration
Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 9am - Noon
Students who will be entering the 9th grade in the fall of the 2013 - 2014 school year will be given the opportunity to take the Explore test at MLHS on Saturday, March 16, from 9am until noon. This test, which is prepared by the same organization that produces the ACT, helps parents and advisors learn about their student's level of preparation in English, math, reading, and science. While the students are writing their tests, parents may register their children for the 2013 - 2014 year. A $50 registration deposit is to be paid at the time of registration. This deposit is refundable if the application is withdrawn by June 15th. If a student is planning to attend MLHS but cannot make the registration date, parents should call the high school at 269-429-7861 to make other arrangements.

Robotics at ML
Michigan Lutheran students have the opportunity to join a multi-school FIRST Robotics team. Our team, "CW Tech Team Robotarians" is a US F.I.R.S.T. (For inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition team started in 2008, consisting of high school students from Coloma, Watervleit, Eau Clare, Grace Christian, LMC and MLHS
MLHS student members this year are Cody Laughlin and Noah Russell. Our first competition is on March 8-9 at Gull Lake. The Following week we will be in competition at Saint Joseph High School. Please come down to Saint Joseph High School on Saturday March 16 to watch this exhilarating competition.
FIRST Robotics mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
Called "The varsity Sport for the Mind," FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It's as close to "real-world engineering" as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.
Every year, at the beginning of January, the FIRST Organization launches a completely new and challenging game. For the next 6 weeks, each of the over 150 Michigan (and over 2,000 international) teams, designs, constructs, and tests a robot to accomplish the numerous tasks comprising the game. During this period the students devote about 1300-1500 man-hours towards successful completion of the robot. Afterward, the team competes with about 40 other teams at 2 of 7 Michigan district events. Based on the results of these events, a state-wide for all the Michigan Teams is created. Those Teams winning an event, an event award, or ranking high enough on the state-wide rankings qualifies to go to the State Championship.
All of the expenses for the robot construction, travel, lodging, for the CW Tech Team are obtained by student-directed fundraising activities, such as local business donations, school vending machine sales, pancake breakfasts, and raffles. NO DIRECT FUNDING COMES FROM THE SCHOOLS.
USFIRST is an organization that promotes more than just building and competing with a robot. They also support, "gracious professionalism" by designing the competitions to reinforce inter-team cooperation. In addition, awards are given at each of the direct and State events for team community service activities, mentoring, and citizenship. Direct and National awards are also given for drafting/design, 3D animation, mentoring, and several others.

International Student Open House
Our International Student Program is at a very exciting point in its early history! On February 6, 2013 we were given approval by the United States Student Exchange and Visitor Program to be a host school for students with F-1 visas. What does that mean for our school and its families? We are being given the opportunity to educate students from foreign countries in the knowledge of Christ and to continue to keep them in our spiritual care for four years! Many of these students will arrive here not knowing (or caring) who their Savior is. Praise be to God that we have been given this truly amazing opportunity to share our faith with them through our daily focus on Christ, a Christ-centered curriculum, a Christ-focused faculty and staff, and our Christ-focused student body! Your opportunity to serve lies in the following: we are now seeking host families for these students. On March 24th at 6 pm, prior to the Spring Concert , stop by the Media Center for a presentation on what responsibilities and blessings exist in serving as a host family. We are looking for strong Christian families who have a desire to have an opportunity to share the Gospel with these students. Come and learn more!
