MISSION STATEMENT

Michigan Lutheran High School provides a Christ-centered, confessionally Lutheran secondary education to prepare young adults for lives of Christian service in their churches, workplaces, communities, the world, and for life with their Lord in eternity.

 Merry Christmas!

SIThe ML faculty and staff would like to thank everyone who contributed special Christmas gifts again this year. It is truly a blessing that parents and caregivers entrust the Christian Education of your children - your most prized possessions - to us. We ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers as we carry out the Lord's work at MLHS. May the Lord bless you as he has blessed us through your gifts and support.

Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund!
ML students were encouraged to raise money for victims of the late October hurricane along our eastern seaboard.  We ended the collection on Dec 19 with over $1,160.  Pastor John Kenyon, WELS Planned Giving Counselor for the area helped to determine what area was in need of our gifts.  We want to thank the ML families of past, present, and future for participating!  The joy of the Lord is our strength and an ever-present help in trouble.
GUIDANCE
Attention Senior Parents:  It is almost time for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This is a form that must be completed if your child needs help in financing college.  Colleges use this information to determine financial aid for scholarships, grants, loans, etc. You must file in Michigan between January 1, 2013 and March 1, 2013.  You must begin the process by procuring a PIN.  You get this be going to www.pin.ed.gov.  This can be done before January 1.  To file online after January 1, go to www.FAFSA.gov

Add / Drops for Semester 2
Any student who would like to add or drop a class for the second semester must get an add / drop form from his/her advisor between now and Wed., January 16, 2013. The student must get the signature of the teacher of the class to be dropped and the signature of the teacher of the class to be added. The form also requires a parental signature. Once these signatures are obtained, the student must then return the forms to her/his class advisor. The advisor will check whether the proposed changes fit the regulations for MLHS attendance and graduation. If this is satisfactory, the advisor will give the form to Student Records to determine if the changes can be accommodated in the master schedule. The entire process should take no more than two or three days. During that time, the student remains in the originally assigned class.

SEMESTER 1 GRADE REPORTS
Grade reports are scheduled to be mailed out the early part of the week of January 7, 2013 to parents who are up to date with their tuition accounts. If you did not receive a report, first contact Mrs. Otte in the financial office at 429-7861.

News from the Spirit Shop

Do you have Titan hoodies, shirts, shorts, polos etc. that you don't use any longer?  The Titan Spirit Shop would like to open a resale table.  To donate or for more information, please call Cheryl Breinling; 269-429-4805

Funds Needed:
The classroom windows on the North side of the school need to be replaced.  We are in need of at least $3,000 to complete the job.  If you are able to help, contact Bill Kruck or Bette Otte at ML.  This is a maintenance task that needs to be completed soon!

VISITOR SIGN IN:

We are implementing a new visitor sign-in system at ML. Last week when we did our lock-down drill, the sheriff's department strongly encouraged us to have a way to track who is in the building in case of an emergency. This new system will

help us to ensure that we know who is here during the school day.

If you are here to work in the kitchen or help in any other way during the school day, please follow these steps.
1. Stop in the office and sign-in with your name and the time you arrived.
2. Grab a lanyard with a "Visitors" pass.
3. When you leave, turn in the lanyard and sign-out with the time you are leaving.
This shouldn't take much time and will help us to make sure we are aware of who is here.
Thank you for your help and please know that we appreciate all of our volunteers and the time you give to ML!

 SCRIP PROGRAM

Again this year, parents who participate in the Scrip program will split the profits generated with Michigan Lutheran. Specifically, 50% of the profits will be applied to the student's tuition, the other 50% will be kept by ML for current expenses.  Relatives and friends may help increase an ML parent's order by having their orders placed on the ML parent's order form.   Emergency School Closing Information

 Instant Alert Notification

You received information in the mail regarding the "Instant Alert" emergency notification system. Simply visit https://instantalert.honeywell.com/ and follow the instructions listed there. When you register, be sure to select Michigan Lutheran High School from the drag-down menu. Parents, not students, should set up the family's contact information and keep the family's login and password secure.
When a combination of Benton Harbor, Lakeshore, or St. Joseph schools are closed or delayed because of bad weather, MLHS will either delay (10:00 AM EST), or will close. The following radio and television stations should have closing information by 6:30 AM. Parents may also check the ML website or call to receive a message on the answering machine by 6:45 AM.
ML does not inform parents that school is in session, only if it is closed. In the event students would have to drive in bad weather, err on the side of caution and stay at home or get a later start. Then, remember to inform the school with a written note on the next attendance day. Please do not call before 6:45 AM to give the school time to make an informed decision.
