Perspectives Title

Greetings from Olsson Associates

Sterling Cramer
In this month's Perspectives, we report on Mercy Health Systems opening its new orthopedic hospital in Springfield. Olsson provided numerous services to develop and build the hospital.

In other news, Olsson's Non-destructive Testing team has introduced another tool, ground penetrating radar, to its toolbox. Shane Hennessey, Olsson Structural team leader, also recently returned from a FEMA deployment in Colorado in response to the devastating flooding there.

In addition, the Kansas City region continues its support for Drumm Farm, which we reported on last month. If you'd like to contribute, please click here.

The Nebraska Innovation Campus project in Lincoln, Nebraska, is also progressing well, and we have a project update on the innovative heating and cooling system being installed that Olsson designed.

As always, I welcome your thoughts and questions. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

Five-star service for new Mercy hospital

By Nancy Wichmer, Marketing

Mindful of the comfort of families and friends while their loved ones undertake medical procedures, Sisters of Mercy Health Systems (Mercy) selected Olsson Associates in April 2010 to provide planning and design services for its new orthopedic hospital in Springfield, Missouri, which would also include hotel-type amenities.

Olsson adds ground penetrating radar to its NDT services

By Michael Sullivan, Non-destructive Testing

Count being able to "see through" concrete as another skill Olsson's Non-destructive Testing technicians have acquired with the company's recent purchase of ground penetrating radar (GPR). GPR is an exceptional tool when conducting core drilling and installing anchor bolts within concrete objects, such as concrete floors, concrete walls, and CIP concrete columns. It's very helpful to technicians as it allows them to avoid rebar, tension cables, conduit, and voids.

Hennessey responds to Colorado flooding as part of FEMA's US&R Nebraska
Task Force 1

In June, we reported on Shane Hennessey's work with DHS/FEMA's Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Nebraska Task Force 1. Shane's unit was activated last month as a federal asset to assist with search and rescue efforts due to Colorado's massive flooding in Boulder County. Below are links to videos produced by FEMA. One depicts NETF-1 staging for operations and then assisting in those areas affected. The other shows the work that NETF-1 undertook.
