Perspectives Title

Greetings from Olsson Associates

John Bolders
As our region continues to recover from the devastating floods, we bring news of how we can help maintain compliance with Section 404 of the federal Clean Water Act. We also report on how one of our own, Structural Engineer Shane Hennessey, helped residents in Boulder County as part of a FEMA deployment.

In other news, we introduce Dan Hull, senior project engineer in our Northern Colorado office.

The Nebraska Innovation Campus project in Lincoln, Nebraska, is also progressing well, and we have a project update on the innovative heating and cooling system being installed that Olsson designed. Also, Olsson's Non-destructive Testing team has introduced another tool, ground penetrating radar, to its toolbox.

As always, I welcome your questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact me.

Recovering from the flood: Olsson 404 permitting expertise can save time, resources

By Scott Dicke, Environmental Resources and Compliance

As many of us can personally attest, the September floods were catastrophic to Colorado. As the waters recede and the damage is assessed, regulatory compliance is not generally the first thought or consideration. However, a flood emergency does not remove the responsibility to obtain a Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404 permit when one is required. Olsson can help.

Hennessey responds to Colorado flooding as part of FEMA's US&R Nebraska
Task Force 1

In June, we reported on Shane Hennessey's work with DHS/FEMA's Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Nebraska Task Force 1. Shane's unit was activated last month as a federal asset to assist with search and rescue efforts due to Colorado's massive flooding in Boulder County. Below are links to videos produced by FEMA. One depicts NETF-1 staging for operations and then assisting in those areas affected. The other shows the work that NETF-1 undertook.

Olsson adds ground penetrating radar to its NDT services

By Michael Sullivan, Non-destructive Testing

Count being able to "see through" concrete as another skill Olsson's Non-destructive Testing technicians have acquired with the company's recent purchase of ground penetrating radar. GPR is an exceptional tool when conducting core drilling and installing anchor bolts within concrete objects, such as concrete floors, concrete walls, and CIP concrete columns. It's very helpful to technicians as it allows them to avoid rebar, tension cables, conduit, and voids.
