Praying for Our Enemies
"You have heard that it was said, `You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous." (Matthew 5:43-45)
These words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount are perhaps some of the most revered, and most hard to follow - probably because they are so contrary to our natural reactions and intuitions so inasmuch as we struggle to follow them, we are also amazed by someone who could say such things.
Studying this passage in preparation for a sermon has made me think a lot this week about enemies.
Who are your enemies?
Perhaps if we even take time to think about that question, we begin down the road Jesus is calling us to walk. To know our enemies as people, as bearers of the image of God, is already to see them differently. I'm convinced that the heart of Jesus' teaching is truly that we must learn to value our relationship with each person above our relationship to the law, our relationship to our natural way of being and reacting, and our relationships to issues and ideas. We must see them for who they are, and hopefully in so doing, we will see the humanity we share.
I believe that is the heart of the prayer for our enemies from the BCP:
For our Enemies (p. 816)
O God, the Father of all, whose Son commanded us to love our enemies: Lead them and us from prejudice to truth: deliver them and us from hatred, cruelty, and revenge; and in your good time enable us all to stand reconciled before you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
In prayer, we end up asking for the same thing for 'them and us' over and over, and somehow perhaps we begin to heal the relationship and ourselves together. I encourage you to try using this prayer for your own enemies this week.
Peace, Jenny+

Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study
2nd Corinthians
Sunday at 10am in the Library we will continue our look at Second Corinthians, this week reading verses 4:12-5:10 including: "we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." What does that mean? No previous knowledge or study is necessary. No long-term commitment required. And all perspectives are welcome! We hope you can join us. - Jolyon Pruszinski, Seminary Intern

Parish Life Planning and Social Event
March 9, 6:00 pm
The quickest way to learn about everything going on in Trinity Church is by getting involved with Parish Life. The Parish Life Committee plans and hosts parish social events: picnics, receptions, and seasonal parish parties. You are invited to a pre-Spring Parish Life planning meeting at the Delaneys' in Rocky Hill. We will have potluck! There will be signup sheets for upcoming events: the Agape meal after Easter Vigil, receptions after Confirmation and Evensongs, the end-of-year barbecue picnic, etc.
We have room for only 25 to 30 people so reserve your spot early. To RSVP, please email the Trinity Princeton Parish Life Committee using the subject "RSVP for Mar 9 Planning Party." Please include a contact phone number and a general idea of what you might bring to eat and share. Suggestions include a dish for 6 to 8 people, perhaps a casserole or something else easily served. We intend to reply with the address and phone number of where the planning party will be.
For another paragraph about what the committee does, please visit the web page.

TASK Volunteers Needed
During these weeks of snow, God works in mysterious ways; just ask Phil Unetic and his car dealership. His auto needing mending, Phil was lent a new SUV with four wheel drive just as it started to snow before Trinity's monthly volunteer assignment for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. No visibility? No problem! Phil got us there.
Volunteering at TASK is spiritually fulfilling and "beats going to a committee meeting" (Phil is joking, of course!). ; Trinity covers the first Monday of the month, volunteers carpool if they wish and we work from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can stand and serve food or sit and portion out ketchup and salad dressing. Gardeners with compost piles may take home all the veggie scraps. To volunteer, email Julie Denny at

Trinity 2.0 Update
The purpose of Trinity 2.0 is to identify and create ways to increase engagement with the Trinity community by using technology and social media. A small group is working to simplify, improve and facilitate real-time communications. A picture is often worth a thousand words. Words are critical in communicating our faith. With Trinity 2.0, we want to connect people to each other and enhance communication about Trinity events and programs.
The Trinity 2.0 team plans to introduce a new e-Pistle this March. The epistle will be more user friendly across all devices - computer, tablet, and mobile - and will be able to incorporate videos on the Trinity YouTube channel. Next up will be an update to the Trinity website, where we want to simplify and make it more user friendly for navigating and finding useful information. To help make this happen, we are in need of volunteer(s) with website programming skills to lend their talents to improve the website.
Should you have recommendations or would like to lend your talents to our Trinity 2.0 communications team (especially, web developers/programmers, writers, photographers, etc), please contact me at patrickbeers123@gmail.com.
