In God, NOT Google, we trust!
Last Sunday upon exiting the church while in the "shake hands with the rector line" a friend passed along a wonderful article from the Financial Times, "Lunch with the FT: Justin Welby." (READ ARTICLE) It was a fun and interesting article giving us an insightful glimpse of our new Archbishop.
Admitting the counter cultural struggle the Church is engaged in, Welby commented on a recent survey that stated that Google is more trusted than God!
The problem he faces is that God isn't really very popular. According to one recent survey, God is less trusted than Google.
"I saw that. I was very grumpy about it. Google always gives me the wrong answer. They're actually out to make money out of us. I'm not."
Welby is trying to build trust in a way that has fallen out of fashion in the Church of England: through his own belief in God."
People are looking for something to believe in, something to have faith in, something or someone to trust. We're trying everything, everywhere, and everyone, but again and again we're left hungry, longing, and still searching.
Let me first say - The Church isn't "the" answer either. (But, it can help!!) The Church in our very human and fallible way will continue to disappoint and fall short, but we must continue to strive to point people to the One in whom they can believe, the One in whom they can have faith, the One whom they can trust.
Without question, we have our "work cut out for us," but perhaps if we live trusting in God others will see and try the same. Perhaps by our faith, our belief, our trust -- others may learn by our example.
May our lives say and show - "In God, NOT Google, we trust!"

Day of Remembrance on May 19th
In the Memorial Garden
 Please join us briefly on May19th, following the 11 o'clock service for Trinity's annual Day of Remembrance in the Memorial Garden. After the service we will gather in the Memorial Garden, facing the main entrance to the church. The Rector will lead us in thanking God for the beauty of our church and its grounds, and, more importantly, to remember loved ones and friends of Trinity who are no longer with us. All are welcome to participate in this special tribute.

The Basics of Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease
Sunday, May 19th, 1:30 p.m.
The Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey Chapter will present this special educational program here at Trinity Church.
The program is designed to provide basic information that everyone needs to know about memory loss issues and what they mean for all of us. The different types of dementia, risk factors, obtaining a diagnosis, current research, and planning for the future will be discussed.
This is a free program but it is important to RSVP by May 17 to insure there is sufficient seating and materials. For registration or more information, please contact the Alzheimer's Association at 973-586-4300.

Adult Forum this Sunday:

We are blessed to have as our final Adult Forum speaker,
Dr. John Fleming, Professor of
 English, Emeritus at Princeton University.
Jointly appointed in the Department of Comparative Literature, Fleming has published very extensively in the fields of medieval English and European literature, medieval art history, and the history of Christian thought and spirituality. He is a winner of the Behrman Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Humanities and the President's medal for distinguished teaching. Last spring he received the Phi Beta Kappa Teaching Award. He serves on numerous editorial boards and national committees, and he is a past President of the Medieval Academy of America. |

The survey is now closed. Thanks to all who took the time to complete it. We received 166 completed surveys for a total participation rate of 46%. We are thrilled with that response - anything over 30 % is considered excellent - so Trinity, of course, overachieved!
What happens next? Our consultant and her team will take the survey results and shape them into a report, which will be presented to the Vestry in June. This report will give us a clearer idea of the will of the parish - which projects are supported, how much money we really can raise and what projects may have been missed. After reviewing the report, the Vestry will make a decision as regards the level of the campaign and moving forward. It's an exciting time so stay tuned.

Planting Peonies
 Just in time for the Trinity Church Day of Remembrance, new peonies were planted in the Memorial Garden last week. Our thanks go out to May Papastephanou and our sextons, Enrique and Roberto.
Hilary Delaney, Barbie Bromley, Carol Thomas and others have also been seen working around the grounds to keep our grounds looking lovely.

The Princeton Festival
The Princeton Festival will be rehearsing their opera, Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, at Pierce Hall this summer. If you like  opera and would like to get closer to some of the artists, they are looking for housing starting May 20. You'll have the opportunity to experience seven (7) wines, featuring modern organic &biodynamic selections from Chile to classic selections from world-class vineyards in Italy. Emilia's deliciously paired hors d'oeuvres to accompany each wine. The Reverend Paul Jeanes, Trinity Church and The Reverend David Davis, Nassau Church, will lead the wait staff. Calling All Trinity Mugs
 Do you have any Trinity Church mugs at home or at your office? The Pastoral Care Flower Ministry needs them! Each wee
k, the Altar Guild creates small flower arrangements in Trinity mugs from the altar flowers they take down. Volunteers from Pastoral Care deliver these arrangements to parishioners and other folks in the Princeton community who may need a "touch" from Trinity. We need more mugs and are hoping that you will consider donating any you have to this outreach ministry.
Mugs may be dropped off at the Reception desk.

Vacation Bible School
 "Come to Athens" JUNE 24-28 where we will experience the journeys of St. Paul and his adventures to share the story of Jesus! Trinity Church is partnering with Nassau Presbyterian and All Saint's on June 24-28 to offer this wonderful VBS experience for ages 3 through students entering 7th grade in the fall. The program runs 8.50 a.m.-noon for all ages with an optional afternoon, outreach focused program for 4th-7th graders from noon -3.30 p.m. VBS will be held at the Unitarian Church on Cherry Hill Road due to construction at Nassau Pres. We need volunteers (adults and teens-community service hours available) to help with crafts, storytelling, outdoor games and activities, shepherding groups, set up, and many more things. One Table Cafe
Seeking Committee Co-Chairs
to Coordinate Dinners
Join a team of dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable One Table Cafe committee members! Meg Hannington and Don Mann have run these highly successful dinners for two years. They are looking to retire and need two new co-chairs to step forward. Their plan is to have a chair-elect or co-chairs-elect in place to shadow them for the April and May dinners and then take over in September, when One Table Cafe resumes.What's important to understand is that the systems are in place, individual committee members are dedicated to specific functions within the system and what is required is one or two people to oversee it all. News From the Iconographer in Residence
Did you know that Trinity had such a thing? I was consecrated as such at the 11 o'clock service on Sunday, March 17th (an auspicious day for an iconographer of Irish descent). Prior to the service I led the Forum hour, and a number of those who attended asked for a copy of my remarks, which are attached here. I am humbled and excited by the prospect of serving Trinity Church in this ministry.
I hope you will all visit the exhibition of icons (including two of mine) currently on view at the Princeton Theological Seminary's Erdman Art Gallery. The exhibition was the subject of a lengthy article in the Town Topics, which you can read here. I will offer one or two guided tours of the exhibition during Forum hour in May and June. Stay tuned for those dates.
Finally (for now), the 17th annual icon workshop will be held here at Trinity Church July 7th - 12th. We are once again privileged to have Vladislav Andrejev, founder of the Prosopon School of Iconology, coming to lead the workshop. If you have been tempted to take the workshop in the past but are intimidated because you have no artistic training, I assure you that you can write an icon. Beginning students are given a sketch to trace, and all pigments are mixed for you and you are given step-by-step instructions. Please be in touch with any questions you have! More information about the workshop and a registration form are attached here.

May is Ehlers-Danlos Awareness Month
 Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a connective tissue disorder that causes loose joints and fragile skin, blood vessels and organs. People with this condition have a very difficult time getting diagnosis and treatment because doctors do not know enough about it.
