Greetings Gardeners and Landscapers,
Fall is coming !!!
We've just passed the "dog days" of summer and fall is quickly coming. Believe me when I say the plants know it. During August a landscapers duties are still as busy as ever.
For the garden I recommend a good dose of organic fertilizer. Not only will it count as your fall "feeding," but it will help to usher in one more bloom set on flowering plants like roses. More important, it will help with your veggies. A large number of tomato growers will benefit from some fertilizer right about now. In order to guarantee a better fall fruit set, I recommend that tomato growers start stressing their plants by pulling back on the water.
When it comes to your hardscape, August and September are great times to take advantage of low prices on bulk landscape materials. By putting bark or rock in place now, you will not have to face the weeds that will be here in another sixty days.
It is an ongoing pleasure to serve as your source for knowledge, service, and quality landscape materials here on Highway 68. Thank you for shopping small business and keeping your dollars local. We look forward to seeing you soon.

WHAT'S NEW AT MCSHANE'S...
|
Our Bonsai Department Has Doubled in Size!
At the request of our dedicated and loving customers - we doubled the size of our Bonsai Department! New larger selections now available for sale. When caring for your bonsai, water management is the most important aspect, check light/soil frequently and always keep the soil moist (Bonsai plants love rainwater). Place the Bonsai in a small container full of water, completely immersing the soil for approximately 5 minutes, or sprinkle slowly and gently until water runs through drain hole. How To: Care For Your Bonsai

Huge Selection of Bamboo at McShane's
Did we mention our huge selection of bamboo? Remember the main requirement for planting bamboo is to make sure that there are no air pockets around the root ball. This means that when back-filling, the soil should be well tamped and gently compacted around the plant. We like to plant the bamboo an inch or two below the existing grade, or to make a small moat or dish around the plant to facilitate the initial feeding and watering. How To: Care For Bamboo

New Succulent Department!
Folks asked for more succulents and we responded... New location / new "living wall" planters and easily three times as many succulents.
Succulents are booming in popularity for two simple reasons: they are beautiful and nearly indestructible.
Technically, a succulent is any plant with thick, fleshy (succulent) water storage organs. Succulents store water in their leaves, their stems or their roots. These plants have adapted to survive arid conditions throughout the world, from Africa to the deserts of North America. Fortunately for us, this adaptive mechanism has resulted in an incredible variety of interesting leaf forms and plant shapes, including paddle leaves, tight rosettes, and bushy or trailing columns of teardrop leaves.
