Greetings Gardeners and Landscapers,
May has finally arrived and with it a wealth of color and excitement in the garden. I could not be more thrilled by our selection of vegetables and herbs this year. For tomato fanatics, I cannot stop recommending the Japanese Black Trifele. It's an heirloom that produces abundantly on the coast.
For those planting, remember to use a high grade planting mix along with organic fertilizer. Organic products provide natural slow release nutrients for your garden. Now is the time garden needs fertilizer the most.
As summer approaches, I cannot help but remind folks about the benefits of hardscaping their yard. The addition of pavers, natural stone, boulders, bark and rock never need to be watered and don't die on you. Here at McShane's we've recently expanded our boulder selection. Once you select a boulder, you can borrow our "rock-jock" to move it into place or we can deliver and place it for you.

Spring Flower Power!

Soon you will need to begin "thinning" fruit on your fruit trees! Remember it takes anywhere from 30 - 50 leaves on a tree to produce one mature fruit. Too much fruit on a small tree will break branches, stress the tree, and result in poor quality fruit. Don't forget to consider bird repellent and netting to protect your summer fruit. McShane's also offers squirrel traps and owl boxes.

Meet Kasey Trangsrud -
McShane's Newest Landscape Designer
Kasey Trangsrud is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Landscape Architecture. She is a landscape designer who has a particular interest in inexpensive gardens that require low maintenance and little water, and yet remain colorful and beautiful throughout most of the year. She also has experience with project administration, and enjoys acting as interim between clients, contractors, suppliers, and all other parties involved in the creation process.
