A Note From Steve McShane
Greetings & Happy New Year !!!

I am thrilled to be writing you with what is forecasted to be one of the best springs on record.  2012 was a year where we enjoyed abnormally low pest pressure.  It appears 2013 may follow suit.  This means we're in for an outstanding fruit, veggie and rose crop.  In fact, growing your own food and flowers continues to be the rage and we're here to help you.

McShane's is proud to announce the arrival of our 2013 Rose Crop.  Heralded as a "Garden Center of Distinction" thanks to our rose selection and depth, we're ready to serve you.  Best of all, we've placed our winter rose stock at 25% off.  Buying your roses during winter means you get pick of the litter and mother nature will help to establish them. See our 2013 Rose List.  We're happy to put our Gold Rush Planting Mix at "Buy 3, Get One Free" during January as well.  Gold Rush is outstanding for planting roses and fruit trees.

McShane's has also started to stock our 2013 Fruit Trees. See our 2013 Fruit Tree List.  Did we mention our fruit trees are at 25% off as well?  Winter is an exceptional time to plant as the ground is soft and trees are sleeping.  Newsletter subscribers just need to mention this article and we'll throw in a free "starter fertilizer" sachet.  Our updated fruit tree list is on-line.  We also have nearly 100 helpful videos, including many on fruit tree care.  We're here to help.

Finally, it is important to note that McShane's still continues to carry the highest quality soils in the region.  Custom blended to my specifications, our soil blends make great planting mixes, mulches and top dresses.   The same can be said about our barks.  I'm especially excited about the new supplier we picked up for our micro bark.  The micro-bark is just the touch to freshen up your front yard or landscape.

You can tell how excited I am for 2013.  Home sales have finally begun to pick up and folks are gardening again.
We are proud to call ourselves your full service nursery and I hope you'll be by to see us soon.  If you have not already, please take a few moments to offer a review of our nursery on Yelp by clicking here for our Yelp Link.  Please consider "liking" us on Facebook by clicking here on our McShane's Facebook Page

Winter is just the time to add mycorrhizae inoculant to your garden or landscape.  Simply apply small spoonfuls into the top inch or so of the soil around your plants, and the roots will figure the rest out.  Mycorrhizae has been proven to conserve water and increase nutrient uptake in most plants.  Don't believe us?  Try some out for as little as $3.99.  Check out our video on Micorrhizae

If you don't know the last time you fed your indoor plants, then it is time to feed.  Winter is especially crucial as indoor environments prepare for the longer and warmer days of spring and summer.  There is no better "natural" slow release houseplant food then Organix.

Steve is super excited about an organic all-purpose fertilizer called Dynamite.  This is exactly the slow release feeding your veggies, fruit trees, and ornamentals are looking for.  For a limited time, we've got it on sale for only $3.75 for a 1.5 lb container.

Notes from Our Departments
Nursery Department:
Winter is a secret treasure for gardeners.  While most people are in their homes, avid gardeners know it is the best time to kick start your yard for the coming year.

Now is the perfect time to work on crabgrass control. McShane's carries many different varieties of controls, along with many different organic and non-organic fertilizers.  We are one of the few local stores to routinely carry  Dr. Earth lawn care products in a convenient 30 pound bag.  Stop by and ask our knowledgeable staff what products are right for your lawn.

Pond maintenance should be done by now.  If not, stop in and check with Jeramey to see what you need to do.  Continue to run your pumps if you are keeping your fish in the pond all year. Most of your plants have gone dormant by now.  Wait until spring to get rid of rough looking plants.  Often, a plant will look great again in spring as the temperatures warm up. Check out our information on How to: Ponds

Talk to Pond Manager, Jeramey McCaffery about your pond needs and potential designs.

Fresh From D'Vine
Produce Market

Closed For the Season,
Until March, 2013!

Dear Customers and Loyal Supporters of Fresh from D'Vine:

We have made dozens of new friends with our new produce market.  The people of Salinas have proven to us that we can accomplish our dream of operating a successful produce market.

This being said, in order to make it all happen we have decided to close store for the winter months, so that we can re-group and implement our new plan when we re-open in the spring of 2013.  We look forward to your continued support!

Please offer your feedback or suggestion so that we truly can be the best produce market around.  You can still find us on facebook at:  Fresh From D'Vine Facebook Page

Thank you for all of your support, see you in the spring!
