Shaw Industries' LIVE UNITED Week of Service
Last year, Shaw Industries released a new corporate vision: Creating a better future: for our customers, for our people, for our company and for our communities. It is not by accident that 'community' was part of the company's vision. Shaw Industries has been a long-time champion and strategic partner of United Way, contributing millions of dollars and thousands of service hours annually.
Shaw Industries' CEO, Vance Bell, spoke about the LIVE UNITED Week of Service and creating a culture of service at a recent United Way Young Leaders Society meeting: "Associates throughout the company set the example by taking a leadership position and getting involved during the year. For the Week of Service specifically, our senior leadership team takes ownership of the individual projects. We allow and encourage people to get involved, and we praise people for doing so. Their service is helping to create better communities. We understand that the community succeeds or fails together. Shaw employees will always be involved in the communities where they live and work."
During the Week of Service over 300 Shaw employees volunteered at 20 projects at United Way partner agencies in Dalton, Chatsworth, Cartersville, Calhoun, and in Chattanooga. Check out our website for full project details.

For the fifth consecutive year, BB&T associates are rolling up their sleeves to help thousands. The BB&T Lighthouse Project, a company-wide community service effort held in May and June, gives associates the opportunity to live out the BB&T mission to make the communities they serve better places to live.
Local Market President Bill Davies is especially proud of this year's projects. "We have associates that are very involved in volunteering year round, but The Lighthouse Projects are a chance for BB&T employees to collectively make an impact. The Dalton community has been very good to BB&T and we feel it's an absolute privilege to give back in every way possible," said Davies. In all, the local BB&T Lighthouse Project funded $5,500 in monetary support for the 2013 local projects. Check out our website for full project details.
