Greetings!
warm december 12
Students sort winter coats for "Wishing You a Warm December."

At this time of year, our thoughts turn to celebration with family and friends. We think of giving to others, and of gratitude for what we have.

This morning's Holiday Assembly captured the spirit of the season with laughter and song, generosity and joy. The celebration kicked off with a ukelele concert by Musician in Residence Jim McCutcheon and the 21 Intermediate students he worked with during his stay at Springer.

Student Council made a presentation of more than 200 winter coats, along with hats, gloves, mittens and toiletries to Stacy Pavin of Families to Families, a local organization that supports victims of domestic violence. Students collected the winter wear and accessories through their annual contributory activity "Wishing You a Warm December."

The assembly concluded with the traditional singing of favorite holiday songs, and dancing to Jingle Bell Rock.

A Star-Powered Celebration!
henry winkler
Springer is thrilled to announce that actor, producer, director and author Henry Winkler will join us for A Springer Celebration! 2013 on April 24, 2013.

It will be Henry's second visit to Springer's annual fundraising event. In 2004, he was presented with a special proclamation by Hope Taft, on behalf of herself and then Ohio Governor Robert Taft. Henry also received the Spirit of Springer award.
reach for stars
Best known for his TV, movie and stage acting, Henry is also a successful director and producer. When he was 30, he learned it was dyslexia that had made school a challenge for him as a child. Receiving that diagnosis prompted him to write books for children about a boy who has a learning disability. The popular "Hank Zipzer" series features 17 books about the "world's greatest underachiever."

Blake Stephens Awarded Invention Patent blake stephens

Upper School student Blake Stephens recently received notice that his application for an invention patent has been approved. Blake had the idea for a moveable fire screen as a 9-year-old, sitting by a backyard campfire.

"As soon as Blake described his idea, I knew it was patentable," says his father, Matt Stephens. Blake drew pictures of his idea, and described it to patent attorneys who wrote the application. The approval process took four years.

  Shopping for Family Gifts
holiday shop 12 Springer students had an opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for family members at this year's Holiday Shop. Sponsored by the Springer Family Association, the shop was well-stocked with gifts for every member of the family - even the family pets!

Parent and staff volunteers were on hand to help students choose gifts and stay within their budgets. Students then added bows and tags to the pre-wrapped gifts.
