Greetings! Springer enjoyed the artistry and personality of our 2012-2013 Artist in Residence for two weeks in November.
The center is now registering for Dr. Robert Brooks' visit in January, and will offer a program that can equip parents to boost their children's reading comprehension next month.
And Springer was the subject of a radio program with Jim Scott last week!

Tom's work is displayed in galleries in New York, Cincinnati and Los Angeles.
The artist gave a presentation on his work to each class at Springer, and then spent extended time working with a group of 23 Upper School students, who created their own luminous paintings under his direction.
 | | Sarah's painting in the dark | On the final day of Tom's stay, the artist and students presented their paintings at a reception for parents and staff. The reception was attended by Paul Wenker, who established the program in memory of his late wife Maureen, a Springer supporter and volunteer, and mother of three Springer graduates. | Understanding What You've Read
As students progress to upper grades, the complexity of reading assignments increases. If comprehension doesn't keep the pace, schoolwork can suffer.
Center Program Coordinator Eileen Schroeder will equip parents to provide the frameworks for enhancing the "intentional thinking" needed for comprehension. Parents will gain multiple ready-to-use strategies for helping their children better understand what they read.
