Thanks to everyone who made the SFA Fun Fest a huge success!

 

Springer kicks off the Annual Fund drive this month. We've said goodbye to a much-loved Admissions Director, and have welcomed a new one!

   

In November, prospective parents will have an opportunity to see what makes Springer the best environment for students with learning disabilities. And the center is offering a program for parents that can help families get a grip on time management.

An Opportunity to Visit Springer
Prospective parents will have an opportunity to visit and learn firsthand how a Springer education can build confidence and success for a child with a learning disability.

school An informational session begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by student-led tours of the school at 9:30.

Professionals are also welcome!

Griffin Melson's Artwork Chosen for Cover of Journal of Learning Disabilities

 

Each year, the Journal of Learning Disabilities selects three artworks created by students with learning disabilities for display on the journal's cover. Intermediate student Griffin Melson's watercolor painting "Winken, Blinken and Nod" was one of the three this year. "I've enjoyed art for as long as I can remember," says Griffin.

Springer's Annual Fund drive begins in October, with a goal of raising $260,000 for financial aid and outreach programs benefiting children with learning disabilities.

Admissions Director Jan Annett Retires
Students, parents and staff gathered on October 12 to extend jan annetttheir best wishes to retiring Admissions Director Jan Annett. In recognition of Jan's signature red hair, Student Council declared October 12 "Red Hair Spirit Day," and there were many redheads at the gathering.

Jan had been Springer's Admissions Director since 1995. Much loved because of her sunny smile and knack for making new families feel welcome, she has left an indelible mark on the Springer community.

ger Welcomes Carmen Mendoza
carmen mOn October 22, Springer welcomed new Admissions Director, Carmen Mendoza. Carmen worked at Springer from 1996 until 2005 when a family move took her to Brownsburg, near Indianapolis. She held several positions at Springer, including Intermediate level teacher and Program Coordinator for the center.

While living in Indiana, Carmen earned a Master's degree in education and worked as a resource teacher, helping parents and administrators create education plans for students experiencing difficulty in school.
  Student Artwork Displayed at Hyde Park Art Show 

hyde park parrot hyde park dinoThe artwork of fifteen Springer students was chosen for display at this year's Hyde Park Art Show on October 7. Keelin Ware's oil pastel and watercolor painting "Hiding" won a second-place award and is on display at the Hyde Park Library throughout October.
