Headmaster's Greeting

THE MARCH OF KNOWLEDGE

In most places where I have lived, March is considered "mud-month." The snows begin to melt, the run-off swells the rivers, and the ground becomes saturated as the water table is replenished. Houston, however, is quite different. Having previously lived much farther north, this winter has been quite an adjustment for me, and I suspect Houston's March will also bring me new meteorological experiences. It is almost like living in a different world.

St. Paul reminds us of our dual citizenship both in this world and in heaven. Citizenship in this world is all too obvious, but Paul deems it necessary to point out that "our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ" (Philippians 3:20).

This dual citizenship shapes the way we view education. Life in this world leaves our curiosity unsatisfied as St. Paul points out, "Now we know in part" (1 Corinthians 13:12). Then he contrasts our limited earthly knowledge with what we shall know in heaven, saying, "Then we shall know fully, even as we have been fully known." From this comparison, Dr. G.E. Veith concludes, "As thirst is evidence for water, our yearning for knowledge points to the reality of heaven where all our curiosity will be satisfied."[i]

It is this assurance of complete knowledge in the presence of God that impels us in this present age to "love God with all our mind" (Matthew 22:36). The whole process of curiosity, questioning, and discovery is a journey, full of wonder and praise, into the mind of God, who created everything.[ii] All learning-mathematics, history, science, language, art, music-is nothing less than discovering God's will. Let the learning MARCH on.

Thank You From the Library

Deaconess Obersat would like to thank Ava Cavalier and Thomas Obersat Jr. for book donations to the library. Deaconess really enjoys receiving great books that help all the kids in the school! MLS is always willing to take gently used books.

Reminders About Sick Children

Please make sure to keep your child home when they are not feeling well or if they have fever. We can minimize the illness here at school if everyone is mindful about keeping a sick child at home. Colds, stomach bugs and Strep throat have been going around. Your child should feel completely well before returning to school. Thank you for helping us!
