CCLE
Consortium for Classical Lutheran Education
As I write, I am in St. Louis at a meeting of the Board of Directors for the Consortium for Classical Lutheran Education. The focus of this meeting has been on helping teachers become better classical teachers. We are working on a criteria and process intended to help teachers increase their knowledge of classical education and its application in their classrooms. When finished, the CCLE will have a tool to identify and certify committed and competent classical teachers.
Continued learning and improvement is a priority at Memorial Lutheran School. The forthcoming CCLE teacher certification promises to be a useful tool to help us become even better at offering classical education. I look forward to working with this tool to better our program.

Chapel Moves to Wednesdays During Lent | |
 Chapel will move to Wednesdays next week, February 13, on Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Chapel for Early Childhood through Kindergarten will be at 9:00 a.m. The 1st-8th graders will attend the noon-time Lenten services. Lent goes through the end of March. Holy Week, approaching Easter, is the week of March 25. Good Friday is March 29, and school will be closed. Easter is March 31.

MLS Basketball | |
 Our MLS younger elementary teams play tomorrow, Feburary 9 - the boy's team plays at Memorial Drive Methodist (MDUMC) vs. First Baptist at 11:00 a.m., and the girls play at St. Theresa vs. John Paul II at 8:00 a.m.
Our middle school Varsity team plays next week in the Lutheran Schools State Tournament, Febriary 15-17

5th-8th Grade Music Concert February 12, 7 p.m. | |
 Join us in the Fellowship Hall this Tuesday, February 12, for the 5th-8th grade music concert. You will enjoy wonderful performances by our Band, Orchestra, Chimes and Choir. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

Pink/Red Day February 14 | |
 Our MLS children may wear the colors of red or pink for Valentine's Day, next Thursday, February 14.
|

PSIA March 2 | |
 Our MLS elementary students have been preparing for the PSIA competition which is set for March 2. PSIA is the Private Schools Interscholastic Association which sponsors a yearly academic competition among private schools. MLS is proud to send many of our students to regional and state competition. Reverend Obersat coordinates our efforts here, and several teachers and parents have helped students study and prepare for their particular events.

Prayers | |
 We pray today for MLS 7th grader Ghonche Pooladian, who is at Texas Children's Hospital undergoing tests. Ghonche's mom is Miss Bita, one of our Pre-school teacher aides. We pray also for Pre-school teacher Mrs. Hilda Kunz, and Pre-K teacher aide Mrs. Joann Alva. They have been out sick this week, but both are feeling better and will be back on Monday. |

April 20th Auction - "Groovy Nights" | |

Our auction raffle prizes for this year are: the newest generation iPad and an iPad mini. Look for raffle tickets and information to come home soon. The raffle really increases our auction proceeds each year! This year's proceeds are going toward Phase II of the playground.
Please mark your calendars for April 20th - you will not want to miss this fun event at the Westin Galleria. Babysitting will be provided here on our campus - only $10 per family! Look for that information on the official invitation. |

MLS Student Achievements | |

Congratulations to MLS 5th grader, Reese McDermott! Reese is a member of the Houston Express Soccer club and plays on the U10 Express United team. Reese's team took the top spot in their bracket and went on to win the championship game! The team scored 11 goals and allowed only one goal in the four matches played. Reese started in the goalie position for three of the four games and played in mid-field and forward when she wasn't minding the net. She scored two goals and assisted on three others. Way to go Reese! We are proud of our MLS students both in and out of the classroom! |
