Headmaster's Greeting

A Classical Christmas

"The Word became flesh and dwelt among us ... full of grace and truth."-John 1:14

The Word, which John identifies as the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity, is central to our understanding of the Christian faith. Jesus literally is that Word of God which took on human flesh. He didn't just speak the words of God, He, who from the beginning was the verbally expressed wisdom of God, actually assumed flesh and blood. Thus He was and is the very truth of God who has graciously come among us for our redemption.

The Word of God becoming flesh is no metaphor; it is the reality of Christ's incarnation, which we celebrate at Christmas. The metaphor occurs when we speak of "fleshing out an idea" or "strengthening an argument." These metaphors reflect the greater reality that the Word became flesh. That God in flesh was manifest points to mankind as the crown of God's creation. The fact that God has endowed us with the faculty of speech is likewise evidence of the unique dignity that mankind holds among God's creatures.

It is truly a great honor that God created us with the capacity to speak. When we use language well we are returning that honor to God who made us. Therefore, teaching children to use words that are full of grace and truth is a noble imitation of our dear Savior and a reflection of their God-given dignity. And when we use language to convey His love to others, our words truly become His instruments to accomplish His good purpose.

Perhaps that is a long way around to my point: Language is the highest of human arts. Using it well, truthfully, and graciously is a major goal of Christian education. Reading (so one can read the Bible), grammar and vocabulary (so one can comprehend the truth), and logic and rhetoric (so one can discern and share divine wisdom)-these classical tools are vital to providing a Christ-honoring education.

Thank you for your commitment to Classical and Christian education. God grant you a blessed Christmas as you celebrate the wonder of the Word made flesh.

Basketball Tournament This Weekend

Our MLS Varsity team is hosting its annual basketball tournament today and tomorrow, Saturday. Come out and cheer our team on! Our newly formed cheer squad will be "yelling" for our team!  Our team's first game is today, Friday, at 5:30 p.m. vs. Epiphany. Depending on whether they win or lose will determine what time they play tomorrow.

Go Mustangs!!

Third Grade

THIRD GRADE- While Mrs. Kleb is preparing for her second surgery, we are thrilled to have Mr. Darrell Schepmann as her substitute. Mr. Schepmann served Memorial Lutheran School as the interim principal last year (2011/2012). He brings to the classroom many years of experience as an elementary school teacher and principal. His knowledge of children and the curriculum combined with his high expectations will certainly keep the Third Grade class on track until Mrs. Kleb can return. We thank him for his assistance and his excellent work.
Prayers this Week

 This week's prayers:

We pray for Miss Hall as she recovers from surgery.

We pray also for 8th grader Ateshi Singh as she recovers from surgery.

Christmas Programs

The Early Childhood Christmas Program is on Wednesday, December 12, at 2 p.m. in the gym.  The program includes children in Early Start 1, Miss Angie's class, through Kindergarten.

The special program for 1st-8th grade students is also on December 12, but is scheduled at 7 p.m. at the Advent service.  Students should be at school by 6:30 p.m. in order to get ready.  We are having a special Chick-fil-A meal from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Forms are going home to the students in grades 1 through 8. This is especially convenient for students who stay a little later in the day, and can stay on campus to have dinner.

Christmas Holiday Break

The last official day of school before the Christmas break is Wednesday, December 19. Infants and Early Start will have a regular schedule. Childcare will be available for students in Pre-School 3 through 8th grade.

School and Childcare will be closed from Monday, December 24 through Tuesday, January 1. All regular schedules resume on Wednesday, January 2.

The Healthy Lunchbox (HLB)

Beginning in January we will have a new food service provider. The Healthy Lunch Box (www.thehealthylunchbox.com) will offer our children excellent meals along with easy ordering and conscientious administration. HLB already has the menu selections for January online. If you wish to use their services in the New Year, please create an account and place your order at http://healthylunchbox.h1.hotlunchonline.net. Our school code is 4022. Since we will cease our use of Catering for Kids (CFK) on December 19, 2012, please do not put or leave funds in your CFK account for lunches beyond that date. You must request reimbursement of any unused funds in your CFK account by December 19, 2012, or those funds may be lost (refund forms will be available in the school office).
