I've often questioned "What is the right balance of planning, structure, goal setting and going more with the flow, trusting what is happening, living fully in the moment without too much thought of tomorrow." I don't think it's black or white, but rather an ongoing quest for a fine balance -- and it's different for all of us and at different times in our life. I believe most of us lean toward one way more than the other.
A helpful question is, "How does either structure or flow, or the combination of both, meet the specific areas of my life?" For instance, how does structure help (or hinder) my family life? My personal relationships or my work? How does planning help or hinder work? Love? Friendship? You get the idea!!

If you are anything like me, some areas require more structure than others (many, but not all areas of my work.) Other areas require more flow (definitely my personal relationships, especially romantic.) It's not always easy to move out of planning mode and move into flow but I know it is the healthier thing to do - to be balanced, open and responsive.

This question of flow vs. planning (or sometimes I call it "a need to know") is a wonderful thing to ponder, especially during the often less structured days of summer...            Feel free to email me your thoughts.
