Dear Friends,

Happy Fourth of July! CMEE is open on the holiday, so please come by to play as part of your celebration.

In June, we were delighted to honor the ten graduates of Head Start at CMEE who will enter Kindergarten in September. We also celebrated the end of a successful semester of Cantemos, which was recently reported on by the East Hampton Star, and Ciencia en CMEE, which was profiled by the Sag Harbor Express.

Butterfly Garden at CMEE.
We also installed a new Butterfly Garden at CMEE, which was spearheaded by CMEE Operations Director, Karin Keane with help from the design team at  The Bayberry Nursery. While still in its nascent phase, the Garden has already begun attracting a range of butterflies with "host" and "nectar" plants. The hosts serve as nurseries for the butterflies while the nectar plants provide a food source. We created color-coded labels for the plants to help your family distinguish the different types. When you come to the Garden, try to guess the role played by each plant.

CMEE will help you build a sandcastle!
Of course, summer is a great time of year for building sandcastles at the beach. For those of you with children who hate to see their sandcastles get swept away by the sea, I encourage you to read "Summertime Fun with Clay," by CMEE's Education Coordinator, Vanessa Geppert. She provides a very easy-to-follow "recipe" for making a sandcastle that lasts.

For those of you who don't want to make a mess at home, you can create your own Sandcastle at CMEE later this summer. And in the meantime, we have many other great art workshops at CMEE, including a "Make your own Mosaic" class this Saturday.

Join Honorary Co-Chairs Mariska Hargitay & Peter Hermann, Dana Klein & Mark Feuerstein, Kelly Klein & Nick Manifold, Christa Miller, Tiffani Thiessen, and Ali Wentworth & George Stephanopoulos at the CMEE Family Fair on July 20!

July promises to be a busy month at CMEE. In addition to Pizza & Pajama Night and the "Make your own Mosaic" workshop this holiday weekend, our schedule of morning classes at CMEE starts this coming Monday, July 8 and the fifth annual CMEE Family Fair is July 20. For grownups, we have our Ladies Night benefit on July 10 and CMEE's third annual Summer Book Club starts July 25 with Rebecca Dana reading from her memoir, The Jujitsu Rabbi and the Godless Blonde. Check out the schedule below for a list of everything that's happening at CMEE this month.

Thank you for supporting CMEE and I want to especially thank our new East End Business Friend members!

Sincerely,

Stephen Long

Executive Director
