Emmaus House Thanksgiving at Home, a program sponsored by Emmaus House, is underway this month. The Emmaus House team signs up 350 households of families in need in order to make sure they have all the ingredients needed to have a full Thanksgiving meal that they can prepare and enjoy at home during the holiday. more >
Clergy Day on Immigration scheduled Dec. 9
Priests and deacons of the Diocese of Atlanta will have an opportunity to learn more about immigration issues at a Clergy Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Atlanta. The day is sponsored by Bishop Rob Wright and will feature speakers P. J. Edwards of Smyrna and the Rev. Fabio Sotelo, a Hispanic missioner serving parishes in Tucker and Lawrenceville. Edwards is a former business executive who now works on behalf of immigrants. more >

+ Catherine Gordon of Carrollton is retiring after 10 years as director of St. Margaret's Community Outreach. She was a volunteer in the organization's many programs before that. The parish and community will celebrate her retirement at an open house from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Carrollton.

Artists' Market proceeds benefit ministries
The Work of Our Hands Artists' Market, Nov. 19-22 at the Cathedral of St. Philip, will feature more than 75 local and regional artists who agreed to donate half of their proceeds to support Atlanta-area organizations that serve persons marginalized by socioeconomic, mental health and intellectual challenges. The market includes fine art, folk art, woodwork pottery, jewelry and sculpture. more >

Parish hosts liturgy and preparation class
A Liturgy of Repentance and Reconciliation for the sin of racism -- and a class to help prepare individuals for it -- will be offered this fall by the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Atlanta. The liturgy is Thursday, Dec. 10. Three options for the two-hour preparation class are 6-8 p.m. Oct. 21, 6-8 p.m. Nov. 18 and Saturday, Dec. 5. "We will define and discuss how racism and white privilege affect each of us," says the Rev. Sharon Hiers, associate rector and organizer of the class. Learn more here>

St. Paul's choral ensembles present Christmas concert

Spotlight: Congregation gets away from it all

RETREAT TIME. Time for prayer, workshops and recreation -- including a game of soccer and mindful yoga -- were on the agenda Oct. 26 for members of St. Bede's Hispanic congregation. The retreat day, held on the grounds of sister parish El Buen Pastor in Austell, was led by the Rev. Fabio Sotelo, the congregation's Hispanic missioner. Ruth Santos, a bilingual pastoral care counselor, led workshops for parents and members of the youth group. "She provided an interesting approach to family issues and problems," said Sotelo, who led a workshop about the Episcopal Church during which participants told how they had found the St. Bede's community.

Groups needed to provide, serve meals to homeless
The Gateway Center, a downtown program that helps the homeless, is looking for church groups to provide meals for its clients on a scheduled basis. "We are hoping for a church to serve a meal once a month, or once a quarter, on a Saturday evening or Monday through Friday," says Bec Cranford, volunteer coordinator at Gateway. Learn about the Gilead Sabbath Initiative
The Gilead Sabbath Initiative addresses issues of welcome and affirmation of LGBTQ people in faith communities and elsewhere. Drew Konow, scholar in residence at the Religious Institute, will be in Atlanta Nov. 20-24 and is looking for opportunities to speak about the initiative. Free online course focuses on civil rights, nonviolence
 Emory University has debuted a free online course focused on civil rights and nonviolence. It is taught by activist and former Candler School of Theology distinguished scholar-in-residence Bernard LaFayette Jr. " From Freedom Rides to Ferguson: Narratives of Nonviolence in the American Civil Rights Movement" offers learners an inside look into LaFayette's experiences as a civil rights activist and leader in the 1960s civil rights movement. Celebrate with Canon Bolton with a trip to Scotland!
People of the diocese are invited to be present next spring as Canon Chaplain John Bolton of the Diocese of Atlanta commemorates the 50th anniversary of his priesthood by taking a trip to Scotland. He will be returning to the parish in which he first served, beautiful Rosslyn Chapel outside Edinburgh in Scotland, to celebrate Mass on his anniversary date May 22, Trinity Sunday.
