Getting angry

Compassion is mostly understood as empathy or kind words and consideration. It sounds like "Bless your heart" in the South.  Well intentioned but mostly impotent.

In the polite version of compassion toward others there is some generosity but rarely enough desire to listen past our own comfort level or enough resolve to challenge structures of domination that cause people repeated dignity violations.

I prefer the Norse word for compassion, ang, which is the root word for anger.  Not a synonym for inarticulate rage, but a deep solidarity with someone who has suffered dignity violation.

Ang acknowledges and celebrates the capacity each of us has to viscerally experience the dignity violation of another, as if it happened to us.  So viscerally we take actions small and large.  So viscerally we understand why Jesus said dignity-restoring actions for the least among us are the same as caring for him.   Matthew 25: 40

Enojarse

As visceralmente realizamos obras pequeas y grandes. Mateo 25:40

AT THE CAPITOL. Bishop Rob Wright speaks out March 2 against the death penalty, this time in regards to Kelly Renee Gissendaner. The following day he said, "I am hoping for a day in the near future when there will be a moratorium on the death penalty in the state of Georgia. For now, I want to say how grateful I am for all those who prayed, signed petitions and traveled to vigils to show that we are people for life and not death."
