 + Bishop Rob Wright will preside and preach at a confirmation liturgy at 6 o'clock this evening at Trinity Church, Columbus. A dinner follows. The Rev. Timothy Graham is rector. All are welcome.

 

+ Bishop Wright will preside at a memorial service for the Rev. James A. Clarke at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Church of the Resurrection, Sautee-Nacoochee. For additional information, see the People section at right.

50 days of online prayers, posts begins on Easter 

 

As Pascal candles are lit throughout the world on Easter morning to signal the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Bishop Rob Wright will ignite 50 days of online Easter prayer throughout the 109 communities of the Episcopal Church in Middle and North Georgia.

    The effort, organized by a small group of laypeople, invites Diocese of Atlanta Episcopalians to use their social media "to share, learn and explore how we pray and experience the light of Christ" during the 50 days between Easter Day on April 20 and Pentecost on June 8. more 


Diocesan Stewardship Workshop is April 26 

A Diocesan Stewardship Workshop for parish clergy and lay leaders will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Cathedral of St. Philip, in Room 382. There is no charge, and lunch is included. For more information and registration, click here.

+ A memorial service for the Rev. James A. (Jim) Clarke of Cornelia will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Church of the Resurrection, Sautee-Nacoochee. A Diocese of Atlanta priest for 46 years, he died April 6 at age 76. After serving congregations in Marietta and East Point and on the bishop's staff, he assisted as a supply priest and interim rector in Northeast Georgia. Read an obituary here

 

+ Mrs. Marcia Jenkins, who served 18 years as assistant secretary of the Diocese of Atlanta Annual Council, died April 4 at home in Elberton. She was a longtime member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, where the funeral was held yesterday. Read an obituary from The Atlanta Journal Constitution here.  

 

+ The Rev. Sandra McCann, Diocese of Atlanta missionary serving in the Diocese of Central Tanganyika, sent this reflection April 8 about the death and life of Bishop Godfrey Mdimi Mhogolo, a friend of many people in our diocese. Read or download it here.

Lecture on theology and culture May 2 in Buford
A lecture on theology and culture will be delivered at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, at St. Mary and St. Martha of Bethany Episcopal Church, Buford, by Anthony Baker, professor of systematic theology at the Seminary of the Southwest, Austin, Texas. Special Worship

'Meditation on Passion' is Sunday at 4 p.m. at Cathedral

The Cathedral Schola will present its annual "Meditation on the Passion of Christ, with Carols" at 4 p.m. on Palm Sunday, April 13, at the Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta. This service consists of various scriptural readings of the season - some chanted and some read - punctuated by anthems, antiphons and congregational hymns. Canon Dale Adelmann will conduct an African-American spiritual arrangement he composed, plus works by Niles, Shaw and Britton.

 

2 Atlanta parishes join for Holy Week Tenebrae liturgy

Two Atlanta parishes will come together for a Tenebrae service during Holy Week. The Rev. Lee Curtis, rector of the Church of the Incarnation, and the Rev. Charles L. Fischer, rector of St. Paul's, will lead the ancient liturgy at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Church of the Incarnation, Atlanta. All are welcome.

 

Holy Comforter hosts special farewell liturgy for Tanners

Holy Comforter Church, Atlanta, will offer a special farewell liturgy for Vicar Mike Tanner and his wife, Cozette, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 27. After three years as seminarian and deacon and seven as vicar, Tanner is retiring. The service will include Holy Eucharist and a special liturgy for leave-taking. A luncheon follows.
