20 years ago I became a Pilates Teacher.
18 years ago I started Real Pilates in my living room.
Some decades before that I learned that celebration and anticipation are necessary components of happiness. My mother, you see, refused to be nonchalant in the face of a holiday, no matter how small. The Christmases of my youth are full of memories of Santa footprints throughout the house, no doubt made painstakingly by my father. Those footprints filled me with intense wonder and hunger for what I assumed would be utterly spectacular. Beyond amazing even.
Under the tree or beside it would often be a gift wrapped Refrigerator box. A box taller than anyone in the house. And within that enormous container, no less than a dozen smaller boxes were each wrapped. All leading to one tiny box with the smallest of treasures inside. The anticipation hit a new level with each new box.
Perhaps because of these early lessons, Real Pilates has always run on the notion that all things are both wonderful and possible. I am so lucky to come to work each day after all these years excited for the possibilities of our students, and our team. As we mark this month's 18 year Anniversary, I give gratitude to my mother for teaching me to celebrate absolutely everything and to embrace anticipation.
In celebration of each of you for making Real Pilates what it is today. And in anticipation of all the milestones we will reach together...
Happy Anniversary to Us!
