Greetings! 

In our Pilates practice Precision is a means to an end.  But it isn't only precision that gets us to that perfect Teaser.  A former teacher was once overheard on the teaching floor saying "you can't always be so precious - sometimes you have to just haul it around.".  I'm not sure I'd say it exactly the same way but there is truth in the sentiment that over-thinking and over-performing each move in your practice may completely backfire leaving you farther away from your best version of an individual movement. Thankfully most Pilates teachers are well equipped to balance your approach of precision and carelessness to deliver the perfect cocktail of controlled power with each and every workout.
 
In diet however, the precision to carelessness ration seems fall heavily in favor of the careless side. In fact, precision is next to impossible for most people when it comes to weight control and balanced nutrition. They say if you track a child's nutrition without any intervention - they do not always eat a balanced diet over the course of a day - but they ultimately balance ouf over the course of a week.  Somehow by adulthood our habits have altered to abandon any sense of organization around nutrition.  Most of us opt for day-to-day nutritional chaos.  Here's a few scientific thoughts around putting precision and order to the chaos.
 
Same Time
Take a few days to set about eating your meals at the same time every day. If all meals aren't possible - try just 2 of them. Get your body on a system and it will be that much easier to organize your workouts around your stable blood sugar levels. 
 
Same Foods
This month - try organizing a few 'staples".  A consistent breakfast and lunch of the same foods will train your body to burn exactly what you give it.  It also breeds a bit of ennui which causes you to eat less than you would normally. 
 
Same (new) Environment
Set up your eating space to be free of distractions and chaos. Set a place for yourself and stick to the plan as though it were a formal meal.  Clearing away the clutter from the cuisine is a key to controlling your intake and eating more mindfully.
