Got Balance?

I couldn't be happier than writing this post.  Spring has finally broken. Rather than grumbling through my scarf I am skipping through my home city like a playground,marveling at how much got accomplished this winter.  One daughter safely on her way to high school and the other ready to test out as a black belt, it takes a break in the weather to realize the growth and progress a few months of cold can bring.

Along with this renewed joie de vivre, I find myself making biiiiiig plans.  Plans for new workouts I want to try and projects that need initiating, not to mention those that need overhauling.  And then I remember - the energy that is suddenly available must be cherished and modulated.  Little bits at a time.  Our theme this month is Balance.  Such a simple word but it's these particular times of year where we employ reckless abandon rather than careful planning and lose our intentions along the way.  This is the season we see the most injuries in our clients as everyone pushes just a little bit too hard rather than pushing just a little bit.  I've put together a bit of advice to keep you in check this month along with a great exercise to practice.  Let me know how you do - I'd love to see some awesome Open Leg Rocker poses wherever you find yourself!

This Month:
Alignment - keep your focus on your foundation. This is a season when impulse trumps reason and you'll need to rely on your symmetry to keep up with the increased physicality of the season.  Step up your Pilates Mat this April and focus on the Open Leg Rocker (see below) to keep both sides of your body strong and stable. 

Hands on - It's a great month to increase your flexibility.  Winter has left her mark on your range of motion, mark my words.  Use your stretching time this month to go a bit deeper  You will naturally arrive at your  sessions already warmed up - use that to your advantage.  Hands on stretches - gently done can increase your pliability exponentially.

Communication - Take the cue from the brighter morning and longer day and join me in starting an after dinner walk.  Communicating to your body that after dinner comes activity will give you added energy, improved digestion and relaxation whether you are alone or with family or friends.
