Katie visits the States
Part of the joy of going to the States is the chance to visit family. Katie was able to make stops in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Florida this summer, visiting friends, supporters, and family (pictured below)! Some highlights included joining in the festivities at Kate (Reinke) and Seth Herrmann's wedding, roadtripping with her brother Robb, and reunions with family and Taylor friends.

Volunteer Jean Arrives
Jean came to Thailand from Michigan in July, in the heart of the peak of heat and humidity! She was such a trooper, despite the lack of air-conditioned spaces. She helped teach English to TVI and church staff, prepared tin ornament orders, visited the WELS Seminary, and toured the city with Pastor Num and his family. Jean was a GREAT help in so many ways! Click here to read about her experiences in her own words. If you are interested in volunteering yourself, we would love to have you! Please contact us with any questions or ideas by email here!

Chiang Rai Seminary Visit
The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod runs a Seminary in Chiang Rai for Hmong students. They moved to a new building last year, so on the way to the Burma border to renew Liz's visa, we stopped over for a visit. It was good to catch up with coordinator Pastor Pasch, discuss partnering opportunities, and hear more about the work being done. Click here to learn more about the different ministries of the WELS mission in Thailand.

Liz Visits the USA
Liz 's USA visit started with the festivities of Kate and Seth's wedding in Milwaukee, which was a mini reunion or sorts with many friends from Thailand: The Krohns, Potters, Sahagians, Gibboneys, Elise Chipley, Kelly Crocker. So much fun! She had time to catch up with Nancy at TVI headquarters in Deerfield, WI, visit with numerous supporters in the Midwest and spend time with her adorable nieces and nephews (pictured).

Presenting Thai Village
In August, Liz and Katie spent some time presenting and updating supporters about the progress and programs of Thai Village. In Milwaukee, we met with long-time supporters at Kingdom Workers, displayed and spoke at Good Shepherd in West Allis, WI, St. John's in Newville, WI , and Christ Church in Pewaukee, WI, and sold at the Peace Lutheran Craft Fair in Sussex. To the many people who hosted us, thank you! We love sharing about the work of Thai Village! Are you interested in having a Thailand presentation or crafts display at your home, church, or school? Send us an email here.

Alaska Trip
On the way back to Asia, Liz stopped over in Alaska and had a good time exploring the great outdoors! Hiking, biking, and wildlife spotting. She was able to connect with a number of Thai Village supporters in the Anchorage area: Paul and Andrea Clark, Kathleen and Kenn Barnett, Bob and Koni Arnold... and more! Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Will be back for another visit as soon as possible!

Tin Training
This quarter we were happy to host another tin training at our Thai Village facility, this time for a group of young leaders from a local Akkha hostel. We are grateful for a great team of trainers and staff to help host these vocational skills training sessions! Click here to view more pictures of this training.

Bung Klueng Village Trip Spells ADVENTURE
Katie and Liz traveled a day and a half to survey a small Karen village in Tak Province on the Burma border. We met with the leaders, brainstormed income generation opportunities for the teenagers in the village, and made a plan to return and facilitate a skills training in the village during the school break. Although it was a long, rainy, and muddy trip to get there, it was very encouraging to hear of the desire of the people in this village to learn new skills and envision practical ways that Thai Village could be a blessing to them.

Staff Retreat at the Sea
In September, Thai Village staff and Promise church staff adventured to the South of Thailand for a 3-day staff retreat. The proximity to the sea allowed for some great specialty Thai food, ocean-side badminton, and extended fellowship and Bible study. See more pictures here.
