SAGINAW, MI - A Saginaw city worker was attacked and bitten by a dog on Oakwood near Webber on the city's East Side today and taken to a hospital for treatment, according to an official.

Saginaw police officers responded to a house at 2004 Oakwood along with Saginaw County Animal Control officers and MMR.

The city water department employee was attacked while working on the 2000 block of Oakwood, according to a preliminary report received by Saginaw Employee Services Director Dennis Jordan.
Jordan said he could not confirm any further details about the incident and declined to release the worker's name.
Saginaw County Animal Control Director Kevin Wilken said he believes three dogs were involved in the incident, though he could not confirm if one or more actually bit the city worker.

Mail carrier hospitalized after vicious dog attack in
St. Louis County, MO

postal worker pic April 2, 2013

(KMOV) -- Police said a United States Postal worker was hospitalized after she was attacked by a dog in Florissant on Saturday.

According to USPS, the letter carrier said she was walking past a house in the 1600 block of Fernbrook when a Mastiff-Boxer mix attacked her.

The victim said during the attack, the dog tore into her leg, causing nerve damage. The woman also sufferered bite wounds to her arms. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Officials said she was scheduled to be released sometime Monday afternoon.

The dog's owner said 2 1/2-year-old Chevy was being watched at a friend's home because the dog's owner travels a lot for his job.

The female friend had been taking care of the dog since December at her home on Fernbrook.

USPS officials said there have been 31 dog-biting cases in the St. Louis area in the past 12 months.

Officials said it was up to each individual letter carrier if they want to bypass a house because they think it's dangerous.

Any Dog Can Bite!
The U.S. Postal Service continues its tradition of calling attention to one of the nation's most commonly reported public health problems: dog attacks and bites. From nips and bites to actual attacks, violent dog behavior continues to pose a serious threat to our employees.

To emphasize the enormity of this issue, we are reporting the number of dog attacks and bites as one number. Last year, 5,879 Postal Service employees were victimized by dogs.

More than 4.5 million people are bitten annually.

According to the AVMA, as many as 800,000 people annually are admitted to U.S. emergency departments with dog bite-associated injuries, and countless more bites go unreported and untreated.

Here at Bulli Ray, we think every week of the year should be Dog Bite Safety Week - after all, employees are in harm's way 52 weeks out of the year, not just the one! Be sure to make this subject matter an important part of your safety training and weekly meetings. Also keep in mind that dogs are the most active this time of year and your employees are at the most risk when the weather is warm.

Be safe out there!

Breed of the Month:
German Shepherd

History

The German Shepherd Dog originated in 1899 at Karlsruhe, Germany due to the efforts of Captain Max von Stephanitz and others. Derived from the old breeds of herding and farm dogs, the first German Shepherd Dog exhibited in America was in 1907. The fame associated with Rin-Tin-Tin and Strongheart, two members of the breed whose movies played on variations of the boy and his dog theme, shot the popularity of the breed sky-high. The German Shepherd Dog is hailed as the world's leading police, guard and military dog, however, this dependable breed is more than its 9-to-5 job. Consistently one of the United States most popular breeds according to AKC.
