My son has bought his first very tiny and affordable condo. After living in it about a year, he has decided to take out the kitchen (except for a small refrigerator) since he never eats at home and has few dishes to store. In his words, the kitchen takes up valuable space that he can use in other ways. He might make it into an office.

I can't imagine this is a good idea from a Feng Shui perspective. I'm not sure I can convince him otherwise, but would just like to know your opinion about this.

Rita

Hi Rita,

Believe it or not, this is not the first time I've heard about this. You are right in assuming this is not a good idea. Eating is so symbolic of nurturing and caring for oneself and others. When the room where that would all take place is eliminated, the message is not one of wholeness and balance, but rather isolation as well as a set-up for health challenges.

From a practical standpoint, he'll have to replace it all when he goes to sell it since very few people would find a kitchen-less condo appealing. But, in the meantime, my only suggestion would be to see if he'd be open to some kind of blessing that you could offer him. Even if it amounts to burning sage in his space or lighting a candle. If he isn't, then your job is done, Rita.

The Chinese calendar, called the Tong Shu, reflects astrological cycles which can indicate on a daily basis whether there is a tendency toward good fortune or the
need for retreat or protection. If you're trying to make a decision about moving forward with a project or making a decision, you would want to do this on an extremely auspicious day or at least one indicated as a good day.
