LAOCRC Updates from CCCAOE 

The Los Angeles and Orange County Regional Consortia (LAOCRC) gathered in San Francisco during the California Community College Association for Occupational Education (CCCAOE) conference on March 26, 2015. While no decisions or official business took place, we did have a robust discussion on many topics. And San Francisco was beautiful!

Financial Aid
Did you know?

Jan Swinton led a short discussion on the rules and regulations for financial aid. It is important the we structure our programs to allow our students to fully access their financial aid opportunities. California Community Colleges Association for Occupational Education (CCCAOE)
Update

CCCAOE is asking for your comments to send to the Task Force on Workforce, Jobs and a Strong Economy. Three documents were passed out at the meeting: Workforce Data Outcomes, Common Initiatives, and Phase 5 CCCAOE BOG Task Force Summary.

California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO)
Update

Robin Harrington presented a detailed report on the current news from the Chancellor's Office.  The report will be available on the LAOCRC website by April 6th.

 

Upcoming Events

2015 Annual California Internship & Work Experience Association (CIWEA)
April 8-10, 2015, Sacramento

Participants will learn from the state's most effective change makers in the field of higher education and focus on critical issues addressing internships, work experience, field placement and employability for the millennial generation.  This year's conference feature a key note from Tim Rainey - California Executive Director for the Workforce Investment Board, and the Co-Chair of the Task Force on Workforce Job Creation and a Strong Economy.

Women Building the Nation
May 1-3, 2015, Los Angeles

This conference began as a California Conference and now has become a national gathering place for over 1000 tradeswomen. There is always a competition as to what trade can bring the most women. Last year the ironworkers beat out the electricians by 1! Skilled Trades are still represented by only 2% women. This is an excellent conference to send CTE students and faculty.

We have a great conference shaping up with tracks that will help you explore and understand how digital skills have penetrated every aspect of business in the 21st century. This conference will be a fantastic opportunity for you to update your skills, network with your fellow Community College and industry professionals and enjoy the Santa Clarita area and all the community has to offer.
