Mass of the Holy Spirit (Grades 4-8)
Last minute information!
As you know, this Thursday will be the Archdiocesan-wide Mass of the Holy Spirit to ask God's blessings on our school year. It will be a great opportunity for our students to see the joy and excitement of being united as a Catholic School community!

The weather is being monitored by the Catholic Schools Center of Excellence and the St. Paul Police Department and a decision will be made by 6 a.m. as to whether the Mass will proceed. We will inform our families via email by 7 a.m. if there is a change in plans for the day and we are NOT attending. If you do not receive an email, it means we will be going! Please check your email; no need to call the school office. Children should be in uniform and prepared with rain gear (ponchos/raincoats with a hood). Note that no umbrellas will be permitted into the field.

The students may bring nut-free snacks and a water bottle with them for the bus ride, but both must be left on the bus. Only those with severe food allergies will be permitted to bring food into the stadium. Those students have been spoken to already and arrangements have been made.

We are expected to arrive at the field by 10 am, so plan to depart the school by 9:20. Please be sure your child is here promptly! Our estimated departure time from the field is 1:45 p.m. to return to school by the end of the day.

All students and chaperones (a 1:10 ratio) met today to discuss logistics so our travel is as smooth as possible. Please keep this in your prayers!

Marathon Celebration Walk on Saturday, October 1

We hope everyone can attend. We have much to celebrate!

In Christ,
Sr. Mary Juliana, O.P.

We will begin with Vespers at the Church of St. Michael (611 South Third Street) followed by a Eucharistic Procession to the Church of St. Mary (423 S. 5th Street) where we will close with Benediction.

There will be a family potluck at Washington Park following the procession.  Please contact Kristee at 651-303-3461with any questions.
A BIG Thank You
to all the parents who helped with the Middle School service activity at Feed My Starving Children and those who helped supervise and clean-up at St. Michael's Cemetery. We especially want to thank Home and School Coordinators Katie Harris and Kristi Szpotek for all the planning that went into the service projects and Mr. Jason Doll for bringing a trailer for the cemetery clean-up.
Looking Forward to Parent-Teacher Conferences
Teachers are looking forward to the opportunity to meet with parents soon during our Parent-Teacher conferences. The conferences will take place on Thursday, October 13 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Tuesday, October 18 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Each conference will be allotted 15 minutes. Parents of K - 5 students will meet with their child(ren)'s classroom teacher. Parents of Middle School student should sign up to meet with your child's Advisory teacher. Advisory teachers will have information from all or his/her teachers.

Parents should keep in mind they are encouraged to schedule a conference with any teacher at any time during the school year if there are concerns or questions. Scheduled telephone conferences are also an option.

You can print a scheduling form or watch for a form to come home with your youngest child at SCCS on Thursday. The Scheduling Form can also be found on the SCCS website under SCCS Parents > Forms. Only one scheduling form is needed per family. Please return the form to the teacher of your youngest child at SCCS by Friday, September 30, fax the form to 651-439-8360, or email to dpolley@stccs.com.  Confirmation of your conferences times will be sent home on Thursday, October 6. We look forward to meeting you and discussing your child's educational progress.
Artist of the Week
by Mrs. Fioritto, SCCS Art Teacher
This week's fantastic artist is Ella Runyon in seventh grade. Ella did a great job with the assignment of communicating a memory of a special place she visited over the summer. Students used their five senses to visualize their place, then drew a picture of it trying to incorporate the senses. They were encouraged to use lots of detail as we reviewed the work of Grandma Moses and went on to explore the style of Norman Rockwell. They learned that art and writing are similar in that there is a main idea or focal point, with lots of supporting details. When finished, they wrote an essay describing their memory drawing. Ella used lots of descriptive details, both in her drawing and in her accompanying essay, and took her time planning and working neatly. Way to go, Ella! Your drawing tells a story, and makes us want to be there!
Did You Know? - SCCS Has an Attendance Email
When reporting an absence, it is important that the office (not just the teacher) get the message.

Our preferred method is for you to send an email to attendance@stccs.com. When you report an absence this way the office staff (Denise Faust, Carrie Sandquist, Diane Ktsanes, Diane Polley) and our Health Assistant, Lindsay Pittman, will receive the message. You are welcome to copy your child's teacher on the email.

You may also report an absence by calling the office at 651-439-5581. The attendance voicemail can be reached by pressing 1.
Marathon 2016
This year's Marathon is off to a great start with about $11,500 collected on Tuesday! Sr. Magdalena's 5th grade class was the proud winner of the Marathon Trophy for the first collection day.

Remember this year's Marathon is only TWO WEEKS long, so there are only three more turn-in days: Friday, September 23, Tuesday, September 27, Friday, September 30.

Let's make our all-school goal of $80,000 by Friday, September 30 so our Celebration Walk on Saturday, October 1 is indeed a Celebration! (If you have not returned your family's pink sheet for the Celebration Walk, please do so by Monday, September 26. Print a copy.

Collection Days:  Tuesdays and Fridays!  Wear your Marathon t-shirts.  (No uniforms if you wear your Marathon t-shirt!) Send cash and check donations collected to date in your family envelope (provided in your Marathon packet). Envelopes will be returned via your youngest student's backpack before the next Collection Day.

Online Donations can be made at any time.  A link is provided on the school website.  Simply forward this link to relatives and friends who live a distance away.  As we see online donations come in, we will notify you so  you can keep track, but please do not add these online donations to your weekly turn-in sheets. We are keeping track of your total donations for you!

Thank You Notes and Tax Receipts:  Students are responsible for writing thank you notes to their donors.  Donations to our Marathon are 100% tax-deductible - receipts were included in your family Marathon packet. Extras can be printed from the Family Toolkit available on the school website.

Gift Matching Counts:  Many employers offer Gift Matching programs, and these matches count toward your student's/family's total, so please be sure to check with your employer. (Remind your donors of this, too.) Please include a note with your collection sheet if you are expecting a match.

Service Projects:  While we're wrapping up our week of group service projects, encourage your children to keep doing service on their own - and let your donors know about their service projects.  Service is a great way to show donors the mission of our school - developing confident, virtuous leaders!

Incentives!  Please remember that donations must be turned in by Friday, September 30 in order to count toward incentives!

Individual Incentives:
  • For every $50 raised, a student earns one no-uniform pass. Total of 5 possible passes for bringing in the full $250 goal.
  • If students surpass their individual goal of $250 by at least $25, they will earn Pizza with Pastor and Principal. $275 for individual student; $775 for a family of three or more students.
  • The individual student with the highest amount raised will choose a $50 SCRIP card of choice.
  • The family with the highest amount raised will earn FOUR passes to Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America.

  • If Grades 6, 7, 8 collectively bring in $25,000, Middle School Grades will receive an All-Night Lock-In.
