GUARD Initiative Request
The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) is asking you to complete an eight question online survey about Department of Defense contract work in Georgia for its GUARD Initiative study. The Center of Innovation for Aerospace has been a major supporter of this initiative.
We strongly encourage you to participate in this survey, which is an accounting of the wide variety of companies who do business with the Department of Defense (DOD) and the aerospace and defense supply chain.

 FAA Public Comment Period until January 4 on the Proposed Spaceport Camden
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Office of Commercial Space Transportation is beginning the licensing process for the operation of a commercial spaceport in Camden County. The federal agency has issued an intent to prepare an environmental impact statement, open a public scoping period and hold a public scoping meeting in Camden County.

TAG Legislative Roundtable
The Technology Association of Georgia hosted a public policy forum on November 12, 2015 that included a special panel discussion on the rapidly advancing technology of UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems i.e. Drones) and its impact on policy issues at various levels of society. 

SpaceUp Atlanta
Space industry professionals, researchers, teachers, students, and space enthusiasts came together to talk about the future of space at Space Up Atlanta on Saturday November 7, 2015. The event was headlined by excellent presentations from some of the people pushing the latest developments in space.
 
F3 Expo
The Georgia World Congress Center was the site of a UAS expo known as the F3 Expo - for First Person View (FPV) Flight Festival, Drone Racing Competitions, and Expo. This new event is reaching the UAS hobbyists who are devoted to racing small UAVs (about 1 foot in diameter), usually quad rotors along a 3-dimensional race track, using controllers and video links that give the pilots "first person view" - or a view from the perspective of the UAS.

UAS Working Group Meeting
The Georgia UAS Working Group had its regular quarterly meeting on Friday, November 13, 2015 in Atlanta's Tech Square.  Read some of the highlights here.

Federal Laboratory Technology Transfer
The US Congress established a mechanism for technology developed by federal laboratories to be made available for commercial markets. The law passed by Congress established the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC).  Learn more about this initiative here. 
   
C-STAR designated as an Interdisciplinary Research Center
C-Star Director Robert Braun 
The Center for Science, Technology, and Research (C-STAR) was named one of Georgia Tech's seven Interdisciplinary Research Centers (IRCs) by the Executive Vice President for Research.  Like the larger, more established Interdisciplinary Research Institutes (IRIs), the IRCs will bring together researchers from different disciplines to address topics of strategic importance to Georgia Tech.


U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and FAA Administrator Michael Huerta announced last month the creation of a task force to develop recommendations for a registration process for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).

Georgia Tech Lands $2M Delta Air Lines Innovation Center
Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) will invest $3 million in Georgia Tech, including a $2 million innovation center at Midtown's Tech Square.

Georgia-based Generation Orbit has been selected for 2 NASA collaborative agreements for GOLauncher flight testing and advanced composite structures.

Atlanta Aero Club Lunch and Meeting
The Atlanta Aero Club hosts Alan Klapmeier, CEO of One Aviation Corporation, for their December lunch and meeting on December 10, 2015. 

Unmanned Systems in Precision Agriculture Conference
The conference will be held on February 3-4, 2016 at the UGA Tifton Conference Center.  Invited speakers include Mr. Young Kim of Digital Harvest and Mr. Dennis Styles of Clear Skys Aerial Solutions to give their perspective on commercial applications of unmanned systems, as well as experts from academia and public policy.  The conference is being hosted by the AUVSI Coastal Plain and Atlanta Chapters and is sponsored in part by the Centers of Innovation for Agribusiness and Aerospace.
